SOS I cant install the CPU

Post of the week, without a doubt.

Remember kids, if all else fails...

OMG, archive thread tbh, im almost crying of laughter here, suprised as hell that the cpu sits fully tight in the machine, the load tray pushes the cpu onto the pins on the motherboard and the pins are pressed down, believe me it confused me at first but i thought what the hell and closed the tray. I am glad its working ok though, let's hope that zalman dosnt fall off :(

I know how he feels. It does take a disproportionate amount of force for the LGA775 sockets. He has followed the old custom of "If In Doubt - Give It A Clout"

Yea the Zalman doesn't fit the right way round even with the top fan unscrewed, but the top fan and the zalman fan are working together to thats not really a problem (they are both blowing air the aame way)

Also its wonky because it's pressing against the top fan lol

BTW guys I got a problem when I go to my computer and see the CPU frequency it says Intel Quad CPU@ 2.66Ghz but below it it says 1.60 Ghz, why is it only running on 1.60Ghz?? I tried stressing it by running HD trailers simultaenously but it still sits on 1.60Ghz :(

P.S I am typing on the new comp.

P.P.S How can I see the CPU temperature

Oh yea one other thing, windows can't see my 500HDD, it can only see the raptor, even though in the setup it recognized them both as it asked me in which I would like to install XP in. Any ideas?

It might not seem problematic at the moment but all that hot air is blowing straight down towards your video card. You need to be getting rid of the heat the cpu is producing not blowing it straight into your case. If you insist on using the zalman may i suggest you at least turn both the zalman and the top fan round so at least its blowing any hot air out.

You need to format and assign a drive letter to your 500gb hd for it to appear in windows, to do this right click on my computer then click manage then click on disk management. Your hd will be in there, right click on the drive and format it.

as for temperature reading i'd use intel TAT, which can be found HERE.

No offence but maybe next time you decide to build a computer it might be wise to swot up on the products you're going to purchase as this would save problems like cpu fans not fitting in properly occurring. ;)

well i've read this whole thread, giggled, laughed, let out a little wee, found out my aeroflower is set up correctly and changed my pants.

Once the aeroflower is set up right ie blowing air out of the case, op show us what that baby can do!

kudos to the op for a gargantuan first build ;)

Ahh someone photoshop those wires before i go b b blind!!

Dad can you fix those wires please?

***hears a chainsaw being started in the background with a faint sound of "no worries son i got it"

Holy crap you have a Quad, ive just realised :( :( , give me your cpu i give you mine then problem will be solved. BTW google "disabling speedstep"

Hey m8 thanks for the program, I ran it and it's kinda wierd, apart from saying the clock speed is 1600Mhz (I found out why, its using x6 multiplier) on the left side the temp is 50 while on the right side the temp is 40.

No offence taken on your criticism but it was my first build and I assumed...ah well I will remember next time :D

Good idea about the Zalman, but I am not gonna attempt it without the help of my dad, I have learnt my lesson :D I will persuade him to help me and see what we can do.

BTW guys with the zalman thermal grease can you tell me exactly how much to put on the heatsink and CPU, thank you :)

And thanks for the drive solution too :D

Yea but I am worried why it has chosen multiplier 6, maybe because it knows that it will burn up at stock speeds so it has decided to make it 6 so I dont wanna force it to run at 10, unless it does this by default.

Also isnt speedstep dynamic? meaning if stress is put on it will make the frequency higher? if so then why did it not change when I was stressing it and 100% load

seriously speaking for a minute i personally would return the zalman while you can and get a heatsink that fits properly. Its a non standard configuration and any other way you put it has a downside. Maybe it'll be fine who knows but do you really wanna risk any problems? its best to get it all sorted while its new

Np's with the hammer, sometimes you have to do a bit of 'moddin' ;D I put my Arctic cooler in the vice a few weeks ago to bend it into the shape I needed to fit the bracket on. Quality!

your CPU has 4 cores so you need to run 4 CPU intensive apps to stress it properly, then it should go back to its full speed. (i think but dunno cuz never used a quad core!!). If it's still not at full speed then I'd try turning speedstep off in BIOS.
