Spanish Grand Prix 2011, Circuit de Catalunya- Race 5/19

That was one of the most incredible drives I've EVER seen. I'm not saying any more other than that statement is ridiculous. IIRC he caught up over TWENTY seconds in 25 laps.

You sir just linked me to a video containing Jonathan Legard talking with no warning, alerts or compensatory puppies and kittens. Shame on you.

Could be positive if McLaren get their car dialed in properly.

Lewis set his time on option tyres, not sure about the RB cars?

was also on the Option. The new Hard used here this weekend is about 2 seconds off the pace thus far.

Hungary 98, amazing drive simply amazing to watch, 25 laps banged in on the limit, he even had the time to go off track and still make it work.

Spain 96 and Spa 96 also show the demon that is MS at his best, sure his days are long gone now but at his peak he was simply amazing to watch, no matter what the car.

i cant see them allowing a car to pass with the drs on straight 1 then use it again on straight 2.

will it not be the passer uses it on straight 1 then the defender gets to have a go back on straight 2?

well I'd be in favour of having them open the DRS for two straights if they halved the benefit gained from opening it. This would give them less of an obvious fly-past advantage like we saw at the last race and replace it with more of an ability to keep withink striking distance of the driver in front through multiple corners.

If they keep the strength of the DRS as it is and make it available in multiple straights that is surely going to make it too powerful.

Wow great lap from Hamilton, it could be a 4 horse race this weekend then. :p

eh? Only 3 mate, Button is too slow and I don't understand why people are chatting about ferrari winning on here, they just arn't are they.

just being realistic.

the 3 people to watch are Webber, Hamilton and the shiny teeth funny chat from that germany :)

all very nice chaps who all deseave to win. :) but I have to admin I am leaning on Lewis since im a fan of his. :)

im not sure if anybody else noticed that there wasn't many people there............wish I knew they were low on ticket sales me and my dad would had gone. :p

Still too early to tell imo. I'm sure they only did either 1 or 2 laps on the soft tyres, so the gap is still to be determined - and could be the usual .5 to .75 second difference to Red Bull or much less (hopefully).

But Duke.......you have just spoken the truth. If I was either one of the three names I mention for qualifying I would try and do a time on the primes........then pit after lap 9-10 also so you would be about 20 odd seconds behind the lead car......but then think about the time id gain from the two stints in a lighter car on the options......just somthing to think about.

but as you say or about to say.......maybe it won't work. :)

I agree Duke that the gap is too early to tell....even in qualifying we all shouldn't have an idea.....well a rough idea if anything.

Just a note on HRT & possibly Virgin being outside of the 107% rule, none of the front runners will be setting Q1 times on the soft tyres (well unless something bonkers happens) so I they will probably get into the race.

I'm really sad. To get to know the track ahead of the weekend i've been hammering Catalunya on F1 2010.

I managed a 1:20.9 with my new ff wheel - wonder how the real times will compare. ;)

edit: I just noticed there is whole thread of people doing it... linky

more shenanigans... http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/91554

The FIA has warned teams running with off-throttle blown diffusers at the Spanish Grand Prix that there is a risk of them being subject to a protest this weekend.

"It became apparent to us through examination of data that what we thought was a fairly benign feature was turning into something that was being used, in our opinion, illegally,"

Saw that this morning, and had to laugh. So they were going to ban them, then changed their mind, but still think that they don't conform to the rules anyway. Ooookay....

In other news, the famously pro-Ferrari FIA have told Ferrari that they can't run their new rear wing any more. It wasn't outright illegal, but it exploited a loophole in the regulations.
