Spanish Grand Prix 2011, Circuit de Catalunya- Race 5/19

Of his 13 wins, only 2 were won when he wasn't first into the first corner. Abu Dhabi 2009 (Q 2nd) and Malaysia 2010 (Q 3rd).

Agree with you on Abu Dhabi '09, but wasn't he in the lead by T1 at Sepang in '10? He did Rosberg on the straight, went inside Webber under braking for T1 and was past him pretty much before the apex.

Of his 13 wins, he's only won 1 where he wasn't first into the first corner, Abu Dhabi 2009 - starting from 2nd.

This is a pretty damning statistic. Basically, we can infer that unless he is leading right from the start of the race, he has virtually no chance of winning the race. He isn't the sort of driver who can come through a field or push a driver in front of him, into an error.

Schumi is/was the same, whenever he wasn't leading he would be slow and crap.

Whenever Vettel isn't leading he gets annoyed, overly aggressive and makes mistakes like hitting Webber in Turkey 2010, hitting a McLaren at Spa and I remember him giving a finger in the pitstraight during a drive through.

I don't remember this being the case.

MSc's 1st ever win came at Spa (the true driver's circuit), winning from behind, beating the all conquering Williams FW14b.

...and how fast was the FW14b? Mansell qualified the FW14b almost 3s ahead of the next non-Williams car, at Silverstone, that year.

I also remember on the races where he beat Senna (1994) - Senna was leading the race and MSc harassed and hounded Senna into mistakes. He did this in the first race of the season as well as the 3rd (where Senna died).

There are many other examples of MSc's super race craft, but you get the point.

A few of us were talking about the hard tyre, it seems that staying on it for a long period is not good due to the slow pace. However that means more time on the soft, anyone else thing we will see a 1 run situation in Q3 from each driver?

It is indeed.

In contrast Hamilton has won 5 (out of 15 total wins) where he was not 1st after turn 1.

2008 Monaco (P3), 2008 Britain (P4), 2009 Hungary (P4), 2010 Turkey (P2) and 2011 China (P3)

I was hoping that Chandhock got a drive this year :( but as you say he is really interesting to listen to.

He may well be in the car for the Indian GP... whenever that happens.

Seriously? Bahrain takes indias spot and then India on December 4th? When was the last GP in December?

but thanks to mclarens tacticians and hamiltons ability to not do anything easy i bet he has had very few pole to flag wins.

More importantly what is the obsession with jumping across the globe when they could just do it logically. Why on earth would you do Middle East, Brazil and then India. That alone makes a mockery of all the "we must save money and be more efficient" that the teams are being forced to work with.

Yeah the guy with 91 wins from 69 poles could only win from pole... Schumacher's race pace was always his strength. If he qualified anywhere in the top 3-4 he was nearly always fighting for the win.

Vettel has had an odd career where his car has nearly always been average or brilliant. He has rarely driven a car that has been only good enough for 3rd-6th( the first few races of 2009 are the exception). I do agree that he still needs to be tested as a racer- i.e can he bring it home where it belongs when he isn't on pole and racing into the distance.
