Spanish Grand Prix 2012, Catalunya - Race 5/20

"Whitmarsh said 1.3 litres of fuel were taken out of the car, and that this was enough to get the car back to pits with enough fuel left to provide a sample. "

Therefore what advantage have Hamilton/Mclaren gained?

your suposed to give a 1 litre sample and have 2 litres to get back to the pits?

I think Maldonado has an extra special present for Frank's 70th.

He's now on pole.

Lewis back of the grid...

*braces self*

Neither of those points are in the rules though?

Your arent supposed to force people of the track, or overtake someone outside of the confines of the track but the FIA used there descretion to not put that rule into practice last race...so why can't they do the same here?

But this wouldn't be discretion, it would be a case of simply ignoring the rules.

I'm not going to be happy either if Hamilton gets penalised, but I'm not going to suggest that the FIA should ignore the rules or I will refuse to follow the sport just because I like Hamilton? Thats just stupid.

According to the BBC now, he's definitely starting from the back.

I'm assuming that comes from confirmation that McLaren told him to stop because they either knew or thought that he didn't have enough fuel for the 1l test, and not for any other issue?

Bye Jono!

Cause of insufficient fuel:

McLaren engineer fueling Hamilton's car set the fuel rig to drain instead of adding fuel, realised after a few seconds and put fuel in but then the call came for Hamilton to go before could adjust properly.

They can still apply discretion, as they have done with so many other "rules" if it was indeed a technical/equipment error and Hamilton gained no advantage.

You obviously didnt read my post about saying it was just about the FIA decision either.

Yep, it's confirmed — what an absolute joke.

I agree with a penalty, they broke the rules, fair enough... but from pole to the back of the grid? That's ridiculous, and that's the farce.

Give him a five-place penalty like if he had had to replace a gearbox but not a 20-odd place penalty.

No idea sorry. Stupid mistake by McLaren though, such a ridiculous way to ruin their weekend.

So what stopped the engineer from quickly telling people what happened and fixing it? Would have taken seconds.

Although with McLaren it would have probably had to be phoned back to the facgtory, gone through simulations, testing, confirmation from the committee before being passed back to the team to implement the fix...

Does that mean my Mal bet for pole will pay out? I expect no, which is double bummer.

Sadly not mate as I was on him too at 10/1! Press conference is classed as the podium for qualifying purposes and is the official result therefore.

On another note.. HAHAHAHAHAH :D:D
