Spartans unite! Tonight, we dine on the NHS!

Brah, the fact they won't do it because you go to the gym, and therefore it would be considered to be enhancing your image is ridiculous. Yet some fat overweight kid who would get the surgery, and then carry on being a fat **** and not see any benefit would get it no problem :(

:(

That sucks! The best option seems to be to head out to Poland if you've got the cash and have it done over there, the quality and thoroughness of the op seems much better than the NHS too.
Only problem is getting together the few k it'll cost :(

booo, bad news sucks :(

hope that there is some way around it for you mate, also as others have said look in to private or the above ^^ poland is a very good surgical alternative location, with very high standards.

Think of it like this, if it costs you 5k but makes you happy for 20-30 years is it really that expensive?

Anyway, dont let this set back put you off logging dude!

I'm at work at the minute so nothing to hand but if you have a search over on uk muscle there's a few gyno removal logs and I know at least a couple have gone over to Poland.

just out of interest have you been diagnosed with the condition, and they are just refusing to operate, or have they said you dont have a condition for them to review?

If its the latter, look at getting private health care for a year (£30-50 per month) and go through them.

It won't make a difference if it's through a private health care scheme, they won't operate on healthy tissue if there's no real reason too.

However, the option with private health care would for it to be paid for under cosmetic surgery (which things like BUPA etc don't cover), hence the cost being up in the thousands

fair enough.

Right so this is copy'n'pasted from a message I sent to Steeds on my phone, so excuse the style of writing:
Doc: So when did you first notice it?
Me: well in hindsight I've had it all my life but I guess I only started to really notice it when I leaned out, and despite having a 6 pack, still had a lot of fat on my chest

Goes to examine me.

Doc: well I can see what would need to be done, bit of liposuction here, but I fortunately I can't do it and this is why.
*turns over book*
"Not allowed for bodybuilders or sportsmen to enhance their image"
Me: but I'm not a bodybuilder. Yeah I go to the gym, but that's it.
Doc: I accept that but unfortunately I can't do anything about it because of that. Ill write to your GP with that, and if you both feel you want to take it further and appeal, you can.
Me: has it ever been appealed and granted?
Doc: certainly
Me: is it worth me trying
Doc: if you feel you really want to, then yes.

Can take 2-3 weeks for them to send the letter :/

Obviously I'd already raised the confidence issues etc, having spent a week in Malta and not wanting to take off my top 'cause I'm too self conscious, blah blah blah. But basically it all hinged on the fact I said I go to the gym. Didn't mention if I have dreams to compete or anything, didn't say I even lift weights tbh.

The wording in the guidelines wasn't strictly "to improve their look" but more to alter the way they perceive themselves or something wishy washy. A ridiculous blanket term that completely undermines the efforts of anyone suffering from this condition that keeps themselves in good shape :(

No, gyno removal isn't just lipo. The problem being the hard lumps under the nipples are essentially acting as estrogen receptors, and even with the fat removed if the lump remains, it can come back. The only way to fix it is to fully remove the lump. I did say that there's a lump there and he said yes, that would also require a cut around the nipple to remove. Found it bizarre that he didn't mention this first.

Well that sucks, must be a new rule. They did used to do it on your BMI rating at one point and I got refused countless times too.

Just use the self conscious route and say things like you dont like taking it off in public etc.

As Steedie said, they screw over the people who actually want to change their lifestyle :(
