Spec me a build

If you are sticking with 1680x1050, then just grab a 2nd hand GTS250/HD4850 512MB for around £40 to tide yourself over till the next gfx upgrade, or try to find a 2nd hand GTX260 or 4870 1GB for around £70 or 4890 or 5770 for £80.

Anything that cost more than that, it simply doesn't worth dropping from the GTX460 768MB, as the chunk of performance you loses is simply really not worth the little money you are saving...

Wasn't Gainward's 4870 famous for being extremely loud...or am I thinking of another Gainward card?

That aside, if I was to get a 4870 now, I certainly wouldn't go for the 512MB model, as the 1GB model can do "ok" even at 1080p, while the 512MB would cripple the performance for 1080p because of the lack of VRAM even if the GPU was up to it.

I think you'd better off searching for a 2nd hand 1GB model of the 4870 (or even 5770 1GB if you are really lucky) for the same price or less and forget the 3 months warranty of the Grade A 4870 512MB.

ive gone for a 768mb because im cuttin down and i dont see the point gettin a cheap gpu now then upgrading so ill wait and save up,ive also decided to go for a phenom dual core and unlock the cores as i have seen reviews and videos about it and want to take the gamble.

You dont need anything better for the current build. Total system power consumption will be something around 300W for this rig under max load - less at normal load.
