Spec me a CCTV System

^^^^ Make sure you are not typing ADMIN rather than admin and then 12345. Not always easy to see that the way the the numeric / keypad thing is when you access the NVR.

Can't you enter it via the SADP tool when checking what is on your network and seeing the cams and NVR...?

You could always log in via a web browser with the IP address of the NVR

Hi

I can see it via SADP etc, see it via the browsers just not log into it at all (I can log into the camera I setup with the same password fine).

I spent a good portion of Sunday trying loads of different combinations of the password allowing for possible typo's (although it seemed very unlikely given I logged into the recorder with a tablet's browser before powering it off, so I would have had to have got it wrong at least 3 times), using the Browser, SADP and the unit's mouse/onscreen display.

I've been talking to hikvision support via email on and off all day and so far none of the reset suggestions they've offered have worked (including sending them the file created by the latest version of SADP and using the key they sent back), so I'm starting to wonder if there is something actually wrong with the recorder, as I would have assumed their reset code entered via SADP following their instructions would work.

Hikvision support by the way seems very good indeed :) Very fast to reply.

How bizarre.

I would assume that the reset code, derived from the serial number of the NVR and the date displayed on the device at the time of the request for the code (IIRC that code is only valid for a limited time) then when entered by the SADP tools it should work.

The only other method that I have needed to use, one which you would only use with advice from Hikvision, is to use the TFTP utility to flash the firmware, thereby overwriting everything and resetting access back to the factory default settings.

Aye that's my thinking.

I think so far I've sent them the serial number derived at least 3 ways, from SADP, as part of the xml file, and from the log in screen via double clicking to the left of the "next" button.

I'm hoping that it doesn't need something like the TFTP utility, as I hate flashing stuff using that sort of method (I dislike firmware flashing at the best of time - I always have visions of a power cut happening half way through).

The only thing I can remember doing between powering it off on Thursday night and turning it on again on Sunday was swap the drive for the new one I'd bought for permanent use in it.
But I'd have through the password would be stored on in a CMOS or similar, and if not when I put the old drive back in again that would have sorted it.

You are welcome to give the utility below a try that I have uploaded to my Dropbox.....

https://www.dropbox.com/s/j9baw2jwxhybxb1/password reset Hikvision.rar?dl=0

....when entering the serial number do not enter the model number as well, it precedes the serial.

The TFTP utility is most useful but it can also be very destructive, in a most fatal way if things go wrong.
I have used it as it recovered my NVR from being a dead brick, as mine came from China I had few remaining options but thankfully it worked out ok.

You could always try the security code with the iVMS4200 Windows application rather than the SADP tool.

Some passwords gets reset to 123456789abc rather than 12345.

Cheers :)

Reading up a bit it looks like the firmware on my unit may require a file from hikvision to be entered into SADP rather than just a reset key code.

Good luck with that.

I have avoided the latest firmware with my NVR, don't like flashing for the sake of it, as it seems to further lock the unit down and prevent you from downgrading the firmware.
They always seem to try and circumvent the Chinese sellers as well with their firmware, creating a potential of language issues or NVR's no longer working with cameras bought from Aliexpress etc.

Funnily enough I've just taken delivery of my 2532 camera (ebay knockoff).
Same problem - can't log in to it! woot.

Mine is supposed to be standard 123456789abc password but it's not working - just locked me out for 20mins now lol

Figured it out - its 12345 on this camera, lol!

Comparing it to the other two UK spec ones I have it's almost the same barring a couple of the instructions have chinese on them and that it came in a plain brown box.

One thing that has got me worried though is that it has an external connector for the audio - does this mean that I can't record the audio without connecting that up to my NAS box (somehow) - or will the ethernet connection send both audio and video?

Time for a play :)

oh - looking at the back of the camera its listed as having v5.3.0 firmware - it's actually got 5.2.5 firmware on it which is I'm assuming the hacked firmware.

Added it to the Synology box exactly the same as the others - it detected it was a 2532 and configured all the audio recording stuff aswell - job's a good 'un!

Will test for a couple of days before wanging it above the window :)

PS - That TP-Link switch is badass - works perfectly fine with two cameras and it even shows how much load the cameras are taking - two cameras are only using up 5Watts of power!

For some reason I'm not getting email updates of posts, ah well.
Great news about the audio. Good result there. I have never had a camera with audio so I would not have known how it would have worked out.
The switch seems good as well. Night time is the greatest consumption, with the IR being on.
My cameras use 36w of power at night.
It is good being able to remotely reset the switch if needed.

Hello guys, I need some recommendations. Rather ask here than spend hours trawling google trying to work out whats what!

Im looking for a system that has 2 outdoor camera's maybe 2 indoor aswell, that will connect to my internet and let me see whats going on from the other side of the world via windows or android. 720p minimum I think? and this power-over-ethernet looks like a good idea? might be wrong? dont need it to keep recorded footgae for more than.... 2 weeks I guess?

I'm certainly no expert but you've pretty much described a setup similar to the one I'm doing now except for the viewing remotely (which this can do).

The HIKvision cameras and ds7604 recorder, although at the moment there are some issues with getting the remote viewing to work in browsers which I think needs a firmware update or older browers (such as IE rather than current Chrome, Edge or FF).

I suspect Vimes will be able to offer a lot more detailed advice as I've only just got mine working for test purposes, and it's not yet been installed.

I'm quite impressed with the 2532 bud - both me and the missus love using the DS cam app to access the camera and listen to whats going on outside the house via our mobiles. Been working spot on - not bad for only an £80 knockoff, saved myself £60! (suppose half of that went on an additional Synology license but hey ho).

I can't recommend hikvision cameras enough either! - for the price they are awesome and do the job very well. I'm not a fan of standalone DVR's though - had two in the past and both were troublesome (requiring reboots often).

@ Candyman - if you've got a PC, NAS or anything similar that stays on all the time you can record to network shares etc easily from the hikky cameras :)

For those looking for PoE switches - there is a cheaper model than the one I got - its not gigabit being the only downside but its cheaper:

Recommended if using on a separate network just for cameras.

The way browsers work unfortunately means the API that's used for the picture can often stop working due to a browser update. The manufacturers find it difficult to keep up with all the API changes.

Synology for example no longer support Chrome - They've changed the API's which is a bummer - only browser that works for me is FF - unfortunately it plagues a lot of camera setups :(

Ok so I think I need 2 x Hik cameras, not so bothered about POE as I can run them straight to my router and use my Synology to do the recording, then use an android app to view them when im away? Have I got all that right? whats the cheapest decent outdoor IP camera?

thanks :)

Excellent! - If you've got a Synology NAS your half way there already bud - thats your DVR sorted. You get two free camera licenses with your NAS so your sorted on that front. DS CAM is the app you use to view the cameras from your phone (you'll need to open up a port (9900 as default I believe) on the router to let it through your firewall first).

Don't buy cheap bud - buy a decent Hikvision UK model first to start with, once comfortable with that, then look at the imported ones (which whilst being cheaper, you can't upgrade the firmware on them). Hikvision have now launched their new 4MP range so these 3MP models should be dropping in price somewhat quickly.

I'd recommend the 2332 cameras as they have the EXIR (external IR) which is far superior at night time. They are 3MP - but drop them down to 1080p recording at 25fps-ish should be more than adequate. I have one 2132, a 2332 and a 2532 hikky cameras - The 2332 is defo the best of the lot. Avoid the ones with the domes as they reflect light too easily and need cleaning often.

In terms of network etc - you still need to power these cameras hence you will have a requirement for PoE at some point. All it means is that you can run both power and signal using one ethernet cable to each camera. You'll need either a PoE switch (like what I've mentioned above bud) or a cheaper option is to just buy two PoE injectors which go in-line to the network cables. Don't buy the crappy cheapo PoE injectors as they are known to cause issues - get one of these babies if you don't get or have a PoE switch: http://global.level1.com/PoE-Injector/POI-2002/p-3341.htm

hth bud - I'm not no CCTV expert but recent faffing has given me a lot of experience especially with the Synology side of stuff.

DS Cam software from Synology looks like this once operational:

Selecting one of the cameras zooms in to full screen and provides audio too if you have that on a camera - its slick, easy to use and just works. The synology software lets you configure what res and fps to send to the mobile app - got mine set to something like 750x500 or something which is perfect for remote viewing on a mobile (reduces bandwidth). If I need to get better quality I can grab the footage off the NAS remotely too @ full HD quality.

The Windows software for my NVR will look something like this....

clickable twice

...the Android version will look jus the same, but smaller due to the screen size.

Glad that you are happy with the 2532.

I must admit that this Hikvision NVR has been pretty faultless and even though impressed with the Synology setup I'm not sure if I would have liked the extra cost it would have been for the 8 camera support I have with the NVR I bought.
