Spec me a CCTV System

Some people have changed it but I haven’t as mine is located in a data cabinet in the attic so noise is irrelevant.

Thanks mine will be in a rack in a room but it’s just a couple of sheets of plasterboard from where I’ll be sitting. I’ll see how loud it is and then replace if necessary

Wish I researched better before buying.
Standard Arlo doesn't do motion zones, no biggy can angle it more.
Appears it doesn't work well through glass. And CBA drilling through masonry and part of the reason I wanted it inside was to "hide" it, I could try and glass suction holder but then it's games trying to focus it.
Any suggestions? Just want a cam, pointing over the drives watching the cars.

Don't think any cam with IR will work through glass without getting glare.

Remember security is never convenient for the 'users', but same applies for the installer! It will require a bit of work. I'd really recommend making a hole and putting one outside though. Not that difficult at all and I guess you'll know someone with a drill if you don't have one. Plus if it is visible it acts as more of a deterrent

I'm looking at upgrading my 7 year old D1 system.
However I'm stuck with the existing cabling.
Am I best looking at AHD or IP with ballums ( I think that's what they are called )
I currently have 8 cameras and would be looking to initially replace the DVR and 3/4 cameras and then do the rest as and when.
Any advice you knowledgeable folk can offer would be much appreciated.

I've got a Hikvision setup and generally use the app on my iPhone to view the cameras however I've got a spare Acer Iconia W4-820P tablet lying around doing nothing. Does anyone know of a Microsoft app which will allow me to view the cameras?

I went with Hikvision and 2-3mp analogue cams to reuse the old in place BNC cabling. Quality is superb, and cams super cheap on ebay only £40 odd.

Mounted outside. Think I need a smarter cam. It picks up on the reflection of my car parked on vehicles passing. I can also walk through it and it will only pick me up almost when I'm done walking through.

So get a lot of motion alerts for nothing and nothing when theres a lot of motion.

Hmm that's no good!

Have you thought about hikvision? I have no complaints with mine at all

A couple of pages back I posted the camera models and NVR I bought

Well i've gone and ordered one of each - 2385 can go on the second story covering the whole front of the house and the 2335 will go about 1.5 stories up to cover the drive and main door :) Will be interesting to see the difference!

Have you installed these yet? Wondering what cam is the best all-rounder

Best all rounder is the 2335. Need to remember where exactly you plan to use your cams. In an area at night with objects close by, the 2385 can work decent enough as the IR bounces of the objects. A better improved lit scene is created.

Don’t be afraid to buy each and test in your environment and flog the one if there is one you don’t want to keep.

Just got the 2385 wired in place over the weekend but not had a chance to get it running after extended difficulties routing the wiring :(
The 2335 is currently pointing out of my study window and while the image looks ok the IR doesn’t work due to the reflections.

Will let you know how the 2385 goes when I get it running tomorrow/Friday.

I set up one of those YI Dome cameras last night. It has already caught something!

I wake up this morning and it has detected activity at 2am. A car pulls up further down the road, two guys get out, walk to the house opposite, throw eggs at the window and then run off. Yep! :o:o

Unfortunately, the IR was turned on and it made the reg illegible.

How important would you say H.265+ was?

Use-IP only list one 4 port Hikvision NVR, but is doesn't support it. https://www.use-ip.co.uk/hikvision-ds-7604ni-k1-4p.html

They have two 8 port NVRs, the cheaper one is stuck on an old firmware (and I'm sure it also doesn't support it) https://www.use-ip.co.uk/hikvision-ds-7608ni-k2-8p.html, and the other is more expensive at £313.80. https://www.use-ip.co.uk/hikvision-ds-7608ni-i2-8p.html

This is NAS/microserver price. Not sure what to do now. Any thoughts or suggestions?

First 8 port you've linked to, and same as what I bought I believe, says in the description it does H265+

The 4 port still does H265

You're right, didn't spot that earlier! Been reading to much into this lately and getting confused.

Would you not be put off from the lack of updates? Apparently it hasn't received any updates in the last 6 months, and still stuck on the old v3 firmware.

Random question but if you were to shine a powerful led torch at a security camera would it still function or would it over expose and wash out the whole image?

obviously only day time at the moment (as per previous note the 2335 is behind glass till I finish painting & fit it properly).

These are both partial crops of items about 20m away - the 2385 is significantly clearer

I'm hoping to get the 2335 mounted next week cover the car from a different angle so will report back when its done :)
