Spec me a CCTV System

Sod it, I'm just going to go down the IP route and get 2 of these http://www.use-ip.co.uk/hikvision-ds-2cd2032-i-6mm-3mp-ir-mini-bullet-camera.html, a cheap PoE switch and a NAS, maybe use one of those HP Micro Servers.

As someone who works in Broadcast I know it would really irritate me looking at the picture from the analogue cameras as v0n says.

Hey, mate, just wanted to see how you are getting on with the in-built NVR functionality of the camera?

I believe that Hikvision do a PC based NVR software as well, did you consider or try this out? Or any other PC based NVR SW for that matter (Blueiris/XProtect etc)?

Just interested as I am about to purchase a couple of Hikvision cams and like the idea of a PC based NVR to begin with then going for a 4-chan NVR box if I think I need one.

Cheers!

Still struggling to find a decent outdoor camera, that will work with PoE to save running multiple wires, and is a good enough resolution to pick up Faces and Number plates during both the day and at night (with support of additional external I/R if necessary)

Any recommendations? Up to about £170...

Found this thread while searching on here and like the look of the Hikvision cameras and agree with a lot of comments that without good quality images then your probably wasting your time however that brings me onto storage!

I would need 4 cameras (possibly 5) and Im unsure whether to go down the NAS, server or DVR route? In fact is it even possible to use a DVR with IP cams? I have a NAS but its only 1TB so it would fill up pretty quickly!

Any thoughts or comments? I read that they can be triggered to record with movement but how reliable is this?

I've just ordered 3 Hikvision cameras - two bullet and one dome. I now need to decide how to power them: either replace my switch with a PoE model, or pick up some power adapters. I imagine a generic one will suffice.

I opted for DHL delivery, so I should have them within two weeks.

I'll be using them with my DS-412+ which I believe has a surveillance package, but only a license to use one camera. :(

Guys, currently use a FOSCAM in my house to view my REEF tank aquarium from around the world.

I keep seeing people saying about these Hikvision cams, do you know if they have a similar web interface like Foscam?

Also abit disappointed in the quality of the Fascam, is the Hikvision a big improvement?

Thanks!

Id like to avoid the NAS box route to be honest and go down the NVR or server options however that would seriously stretch my budget.

I have an old laptop running Vista that I could wipe and install FreeNAS on it with a 2TB drive in it if that would work? My only issue with that is reliability of it being on 24/7?

I'm using 140GB per week for my single camera.

If you go down the NAS route, is it possible to live view all cameras from one central interface?

Depends on the NAS. My Synology has a central app but only supports one camera by default (and licenses are pretty expensive)

The Hikvision has a pretty nice web interface where you can view/configure the camera. It's certainly not offensive to use.

Quality is very very good, a bit of tweaking and I'm really happy! Facial recognition (even at night) is quite impressive. I've caught some brilliant footage recently which I just wouldn't have got with my old Tenvis camera.

Part of a job role for a previous employer involved finding a replacement for an ancient analogue CCTV system. You haven't seen detail until Avigilon have come to see you to demo a 29MP camera :D

The $10,000 price tag without the lens was the sticking point.

Thanks a lot

I would be after a dome type which i can move around through the interface, which would you recommend?

Another quick question, how far can a POE switch send power over Cat5e? Are there any restrictions? I will only be from the downstairs office to the roof but will depend on where the cable needs routing as to how far it will be.

The maximum length of copper network cable which is 100m end to end. We started to see problems at the 120m mark for those that we stretched the limit of.

My cameras have arrived, but as I'm still sorting out power I haven't got them installed yet. I've come back to give people an idea of how long it took and how much it cost to order from HK (AliExpress).

I ordered one dome and two bullet cameras on the 21st May at a total cost of £190.60, including £14.73 DHL 3-7 day shipping.

It takes upto 24hrs for them to verify payment. I was a little concerned as I was having the cameras delivered to my dad's house, so shipping and billing addresses were different (credit card rejection), but there were no issues.

The seller quoted up to 7 days order processing and I got a dispatch email on the 26th May. However, DHL state they picked up the shipment on the 30th May.

It arrive in the UK on Sunday, 1st June and was delivered on Monday, 2nd June.

I'm very impressed with the whole order process.

The cameras seem very well made and as soon as my PoE switch is delivered I'll be hooking them up.

Oh yes, I got a text message from DHL on the 30th May asking for £3.33 to cover VAT and/or admin charges. I paid this over the phone, but it could also be paid online.

I thought it was a strange amount and tbh a little low considering the total cost of the goods. I guessed the seller had been a little 'imaginative' with the shipment declaration and when the parcel arrived it turned out to be true. They had declared only two cameras and stated they were 'samples' worth just $24. I did not ask them to do this.

It's not strictly kosher, but has resulted in a lower tax/duty bill for me. :D

Am I allowed to specify the seller? Is it breaking forum rules? If not, I will. There are lots of sellers on AliExpress and it was a matter of balancing price, delivery charges and seller feedback rating.

Thanks, a quick google I think probably will suffice here ;)

Which NAS/software/NVR are you planning on using with them?

I have a Synology DS412+ DiskStation NAS which has a surveillance app pre-installed but a license for only one camera. So it'll be a matter of testing it and if I like it, consider buying more licenses - but they're not cheap. So I may have to look into alternatives.

I believe the HikVisions can record direct to NAS.
