Spec me a dehumidifier please?

@Raymond Lin where from may I ask? Seem to be out of stock everywhere!

Curry's I ordered it on Wednesday to collect in store, picked it up last night.

edit - I may have bought the last one because after I ordered I received 2 emails.

First one arrived saying "

"Hi ,

We've got your order, and it's being processed. Please sit tight for now, and don’t head to the store just yet. We'll send you another email to let you know when your tech's ready to collect. Won't be long!"

Then immediately I received"

Sorry, your delivery is delayed

Hi raymond - we’re sorry to say we can’t get your delivery to you as soon as we said on our website."

But it then did arrive the next day at the store.

I bought a Midea 16L one from Toolstation. It works well, but the best feature is the ioniser

It makes it dual purpose - not only is it very good at drying clothes, but the ioniser is great at removing smells in a room.

It does it by creating smog, basically killing bacteria in the air. Super unhealthy for you, so make sure you open the window after, but I've used it to get rid of the smell in some of my sports shoes and it has done so more effectively than anything else I've tried.

how is the noise level on the unit? How is the quality?

I have the same Meaco but the 10L version, I struggle to see how they measured the sound at 35dB though, so think the claim is a bit misleading. The unit itself is excellent, however and has massively helped us with drying clothes in the back bedroom.

I got mine from Appliances Direct last week.

Just sounds like a fan, I run it on max whenever it’s on.

I can have it on in the same room as me while on work calls without any issues.

No annoying noises to report

Build quality seems fine. Decent quality plastics.

Has transformed drying clothes indoors.

Thanks.

The description says it removes 16 litres at 30 degrees and 80% humidity - obviously a level way above what we need in this country (wetter and colder).

So the Ebac's and now the Meaco Arete, claim to be optimised for UK conditions. Is this true or just marketing BS?

Haven't a clue.

All I know is that I turn it on, wait for the big 3L tank to fill up and then by the time it has, the clothes are dry

Wouldn't put much faith in that, they may be slightly optimised in some way but the reality is the units are constrained mostly by physics. If its anything to go by i'm getting the extraction rates specificied by my MeacoDry Arete One 20L. At 17c and a start point of 70% it extracted probably about 3.5 to 4L over night to a target of 50%. It then ran keeping things at 50% at 17c for about 19 hours before filling the 4.8L tank.

Do you know if it was running continuously during that time, or cycling itself on and off?

Not sure, probably close to continuous given i'm getting their quoted extraction rates although likely cycling at the end of that time frame as it brought it down
One of the claims Ebac makes is that its control system ensures that only the right level of moisture is extracted from the air, not too much or too little. How it does this I don't know, but there is no setting to change on the humidistat like other models. But when I was running the one I returned, it was pretty much on constantly anyway from what I could tell.

Got my ELA RD12D out of shed yesterday and it picked up half tank full in three hour's - Windows have condensation along bottom most mornings (12 yrs old now)- Except two new front ones which only get it on outside.

Having dropped the heating lower we now have more problems with condensation (1930's 3bed detached) especially when drying washing.

I think I'll try a desiccant dehumidifier.

Any deals or recommendations, especially with black Friday coming up.

Thanks.

Not a Black Friday deal but I just purchased an Ecoair DD3 classic, turning up Friday I’ll let you know. It’s a Which? Best Buy, £230 on Amazon and seems to do everything I want.

About to get rid of mine, costs far too much to run. Averages 6kwh per day.
Changing to a compressor version.
