Spec me a rice cooker

It's arrived and it's tiny!

Mrs Feek was surprised, I hadn't told her I was buying it. When I said "we just wash the rice, throw it in, add water, switch it on and wait" she said "we buy pre-washed rice".

Looking forward to see how you get on with it.
The little tray on top is useful for steaming veg etc whilst the rice is cooking.

No mention of Uncle Roger in this whole thread. Disappointing.

Fwiw he uses the same model/brand that Raymond recommended and mentions multiple times in his videos that most asain families use a rice cooker.

When/if my panda breaks I'll be looking at a more premium cooker. One of those items I wish I'd purchased years ago.

Was reading this thread a while back and forgot about it, now noticed it again and thinking about it again..

Anyone know if there are any appreciable black friday deals on rice cookers? :)

Yes robj20 agree

we get the 5kg-10kg aunt caroline from costco ...cheapish and last long
I think I've tried the Costco stuff but going to the Asian supermarket you can get rice and stuff so much cheaper. I just need to be brave and try some of the others.
Fancy trying a Jasmin rice but isn't that sticky rice, I don't want sticky rice.

Didn’t use their measuring cup, I used the one we normally use which is about a cup and a half of the one supplied. I added water using our normal cup so 1:1.

The rice is cheap supermarket ‘easy cook’, I washed it and a fair bit of starch came off.

Set the machine going on an hour and a half timer so it was ready after work.

Perfectamundo. Absolutely spot on.

And in future you won't need easy cook rice.

No. But a tiny bit yes :p

Jasmine rice is not "sticky rice", which generally refers to the sort of rice which forms a lump (for want of a more appealing description) where you'd pull off a piece to eat with your fingers, for example with som tam or grilled pork skewers in Thai food.

However, it does tend to be a bit stickier than basmati, so while the grains should still be fairly separate they will definitely clump a bit more. Washing it more thoroughly can help with that, but arguably that begins to defeat the point of eating jasmine rice in the first place :)

Jasmine isn’t sticky rice , it doesn’t separate as well as basmati but it’s very nice , sticky rice or glutinous rice is as it says , very sticky but also nice but needs to be eaten with the appropriate meal or it would just fill you right up very quickly

After trying all brands, I've found what suits me best..

A full cup will do me two meals, and whats left over from the first meal goes into the fridge overnight and is perfect for egg fried rice the day after.

This thread gave me the motivation to ask my wife what rice cooker we should get... https://taipec.com/product/tc-rice-cooker-6gs/

Internet cookie for you if you can guess where my wife was born, her opinion was Zojirushi is good but you are paying massively for the name..
Holloway?

Taiwan obvs.

Are rice cookers actually worth it though? All I do is cook rice and drain it when its done...I have a feeling im going to get lynched for doing it this way but the rice is always fine? I cant physically eat the rice in the microwaveable packs so if a rice cooker is a game changer i might have to invest.

I think it’s the consistency you’d get from using it and the convience. We normally cook rice in a microwave, not the horrible packet stuff the problem, for me at least is having to modify the timing is a pain in the arse. This thing you chuck the rice in flick a switch and come back in 30 mins rice cooked.

In addition this one allows you to steam dumpling and similar things.
