Spec me an LED Torch

I used to have an LED torch but have misplaced it after a camping trip and looking to get a new one.

I don't know much about them, but I think the old one was a LED Lenser P7 or one of the cheaper equivalents. Hand held size and I think it had 3 output modes and took rechargeable batteries (an oversized AA looking type). It was mega bright too on the highest setting. Probably paid about £30 for it a few years ago?

What would you recommend as the best hand held size torch (i.e. bigger than a key ring type) that would be a similar replacement for £20-£30?

Sounds like it used one of these batteries http://www.jazooli.com/outdoor-leis...y-for-ultrafire-lumens-torch__AFRA000383.aspx

£1.99 for 18650 seems a good price if its a good quality as I have read, a bargain to test as its free delivery.

Im not sure if its coming from UK or HK as Ive not got it yet

I have got a UF WF-501b with a newer type cree, longer life same output. £8 from amazon. Also a usb charger for 18650 that then is portable charger for anything mobile like phones, its a regulated circuit apparently so decent at £6 ?

For £2.83 this was a cracking buy, thanks silversurfer.

Still dont know how long the single AA lasts.

This model is a similar cheapy deal and will work off a 18650 which makes me think it could be a lot brighter still:

Power by: 1x 18650 3.6v/3.7v OR 3X AAA /26650 battery
Note: Only the 2665 battery is fully charged, in order to achieve 2000Lumens
Use of other batteries around 1600Lumens-1800Lumens between,
We recommend 2 batteries

Would be nice but doesnt sound like its 1000 luments at all. Many reviews like this

CREE XML-T6 Led 1000 Lumens mini Flashlight Torch 18650 that is what i payed for.i received a 200 lumens torch.and i waited a month for that.

The item is not a 1000 Lumen torch - about 200 Lumens is more likely.

It does not have a CREE T6 LED, it is an inferior Q5 LED.

It does not take an 18650 battery - it will not physically fit in the torch. It takes a 14500 battery (an AA size Lithium battery). It will NOT run on conventional AA batteries.

I would really like a 2AA or 3AA focus torch like the P7, but that uses CREE T6 LED

edit - yep, definitely rubbish;

These chinese crappers are will no way be near 1000 lumens. However the smaller ones that are 300 may be very close to 300

Pretty much my most battered and dropped torches are the SolarForce L2P (tactical head and tail stand) and UltraFire C8. The finish has been scratched on them quite a bit and they look like they are workhorses. Rightly so, they've been submerged, dropped, in arctic winds and still kicking :)

Aod even took my C8 to South Africa!

I'll stand by these torches for as long as I am breathing :)

Good times, good recommendations :D :)

There are no specs that I can see - modes, flood, run times etc

I was thinking about that one as ok. I have no idea about drivers, Im amazed a T6 can honestly give out 1400 lumens in ideal lab conditions.
I doubt any of these cheapy torches are near to that

I count the AA torch setup as 100 lumens (which is good for 3 quid) and I mentioned the 18650 maybe thinking it can do 200, I ignore the claims otherwise
Since they arent even mentioning other parts it cant be judged except in person arbitrarily. I opted for a slightly newer T6 cree development version, not sure if its any good yet

I have the torch, I received the Jazooli battery but not the charger.
In fact I opened up an old laptop battery and got tons of 18650 but I presume they are all close to duds and I lack the equipment to test them

Does the Ultafire C8 XM-L T6 have adjustable focus?

I know what you are saying about the lumen output, complete rubbish what sellers are saying and am surprised they can get away with it.

I just tested my Nitecore EA4 on ultra low mode (65 lumens) which has old batteries against the Ultrafire 7W which is 'rated' at 300 lumens.

This one - http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B008BXSMOO/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Its safe to say the EA4 in 65 lumen destroys the 300 Ultrafire, both flood and spill. Id say the 7W is more like 50 lumens, if that. Still good for £2.83 (+ free delivery!?)

I reckon the 1300 and 1800 lumen Ultrafires will be more like 300 lumen and 400 lumen

Are they the same torches? (different LEDs?)

Ultrafire C8 XM-L U2 - Review

ULTRAFIRE C8 CREE XM-L T6 LED 1300 LUMEN FLASHLIGHT/TORCH

edit - you can get the C8 with the newer U2 LED or T6. U2 is apparently a warmer LED than the T6 from what I can make out here - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ePdwx19MCI4

U2 and T6 are luminous flux binning codes, the tint and colour temperature are independent of the bin-codes.

For more information, refer to the extremely comprehensive Cree Datasheet (download).

The light and power ratings on Chinese torches are about as realistic as the power-output ratings on cheap audio equipment, ie, not even tangentially related to reality. :p :D

I was going to sell my EA4 and get the EA8... however think i'm just going to get the Fenix TK41. Highly regarded by just about everyone on CPF and flashaholics

For 110 I'd want a lightsabre mode. http://www.amazon.co.uk/FENIX-TK41-LUMENS-WATERPROOF-ALUMINIUM/dp/B004XN3FHA
