The Zebralights from LEDFireTorches with the discount are a steal. One of the front-emitter ones would sort you out for a hand torch.

For a head torch I still think that something like this;

is a better option to the more "modern" Headlamps like the Zebralight ones, as they're quite a bit lighter. Pretty decent price at £35 there too!

As for a lantern, I've not had much experience with them, but this one is well reviewed and uses more up-to-date LED technology (three big COB arrays, rather than loads of little discrete emitter packages) and is pretty cheap:

901 pages for me :p Since 2010 technology moved on, I still have a headlamp mentioned at the thread start. It fell apart a bit, unglued pcb but its still decent for 3xAAA so anyone not aware should still be advised well to buy LED

I feel that, over 151 Pages, this thread got derailed from the OP.

The thing is that just like graphics cards and processors, the technology of LED lights is continuously evolving and improving, and that's why this thread has kept going all this time.

Also, it's only 57 pages here, git your 80 posts-per-page game on scrub! :p

Currently I've got a Solarforce L2 based light, which is a great combination of size, weight & output, but I've been thinking of getting an additional flashlight that's got (much) more output.
I was therefore wondering if there's a flashlight with plenty of output power, but also with a USB port for charging external devices (so it can serve as a flashlight, and a portable power pack for the phone etc when out and about).
Do such things exist? I've come across battery packs with an LED light, but they're hardly worth having, as phone screen/torch would be better!

Let's hope it arrives in time!

Looks like it's going to make it on time, likely to get it tomorrow :)

I'm going to need a new torch for cycling when the nights start drawing in. Currently got a 502b which has served me well for 3 years but i just can't get it to stop jumping between modes when going over bumps now.

What would be a good torch to replace it with? Would like the same size form and takes a single 18650 battery.

Had some issues with the tracking this morning as it stated there was an address problem, WTF! Called the depot up and they weren't too sure what was happening but the delivery driver was bringing the package back to the deport. Drove down to the depot after work and was told that the problems occurred due to address label falling off :D

The SC600w III HI :)

For a 18650 light, this thing is tiny. It's not much bigger than the SC5w - a single AA light! I am shocked how small it is.

The finish is superb. Nice to see they have gone for a more grey meta finish. Great knurling and weight. The cooling fins on the head are quite striking, much deeper than the SC5w to help wick the greater heat away.

Comparing the reflectors and emitters.

The de-domed XHP35 is what makes the HI - producing a tighter and more intense hot spot.

I've only been playing for a couple of hours but so far I really like what I see. The tint is perfect! The throw is incredible for such a small light/reflector, there is a decent amount of spill also, this isn't just a thrower. Throw distances: I have trees around 60 metres away and it is illuminating them with no problems. No light I own of this size can do this, the SC600 certainly can't. It actually makes the SC600 look like a floody natured light..

Some quite and dirty beamshots

These are very rough and dirty beamshots, but they give an idea.

A6 BLF Edition NW

The hotspot is brighter than the A6 BLF and the tint is warmer, less green and more neutral.

It's early days but this is one special light. One in which you need to be able to live with only being able to use unprotected cells, due to size and current drain requirements... actually I would be interested to know what the max current drain is on this light, can't seem to find my multi meter at present and searches on CPF have unusually not come up with the answer.

Where would you find said discount code for LEDfiretorches?

The other UK Flashlights retailer has them for the normal price which is £67, so I'd say so. I'm extremely happy with mine :D

Still really enjoying the SC600 III HI, I haven't got a bad word to say about it. The thing packs such a punch.

Has anyone else checked out the relatively new unprotected 18650 cells from LG? The LG18650MJ1. They are pretty impressive, 3500mAh capacity with the ability to discharge at 10amps.
