Spec me an LED Torch

I placed and order with Ledfire Torches (The Photon Shop) http://www.ledfiretorches.co.uk/ and paid using paypal as I usually do.

I had this reply today;

Your payment for order ********* has been processed by PayPal as an
e-cheque.
This will take approximately a week to clear through and at that point
we will be able to ship your order.

A week!!?? I have ordered items from Australia and New Zealand in the past, paid with Paypal and received the item within a week.

I have emailed them to cancel my order and i'll change to Visa Debit but this isnt a good start for using this website as I have never had any issues ordered with Paypal from many different websites

I think it was Paypal that tricked them! Either way, I contacted them and cancelled my order without problem.

I had a bit of a read up on the Fenix PD40 with the 26650 battery and ended up buying that as it was £50, the same price as the Zebralight and a newer torch that will hopefully be better for the price. I had a TK75 and whilst it was good it was simply out of my needs and way to big to carry around at things like festivals and campsites.

Out of interest, are there any good torches that have the zoom feature? i.e flood to throw whilst still being good quality? I have cheapo (£3) AA torch that zooms and is ok for daily use but I took it camping over the weekend and a bit of rain rendered it useless when I did need it. Luckily I had a lantern handy

edit - I just bought the PD40 but can't help but notice the Fenix PD41 is powered on 4xAA instead, similar size whilst still having white high output and run times. Suppose I can always sell my PD40 and battery as I bought it at a good price. The Nitecore P12 2015 edition is also a lot smaller.

Why am I interested in torches again?? Damn this thread

Hmm im slightly tempted to build a lamp for work we have a colextion of ancient bayco NSR-9850 nightsticks for our boxes

http://www.emergencyequipmentnews.net/2008/06/14/bayco-nightstick-new-models/

Second on that oage.

The batteries last at best 3 hours before its too dark to use.

And seems its only 400 lumens to begin with.

I only ever use the 4 side leds.

Was thinking could make soemthign that had more powerful leds and say 6 18650s (20100mah) so it can last a full 12 hour shift.

Has to be a roughly simmilar shape (tube with the leds on the side) and i was thinking i could make some rubber octagonal "bumpers" on eather end like the at4 to keep it from roaling but alow me to a lot of variation for position

It usualy gets laid down on its side i side confied spaces.

Also some kind of replaceable lems may be good cause the uh get covered in paint and sealsnt.

Was thinking a metal/plastic tube end caps with the bumpers on lefs shoning through a hole cut in tbe middle, fixed lens over the leds behing rhe hole then a cheap clear sleave over it so i can roatate it as it gets dorty then jist pop an end cap off and replace the sleve/lens gaurd) if it gets too bad

Led ideas?

Would ideally be at least twice to 3 times as bright as the bayco so 800-1200 lumen

Came in here, now I think I need to update my 5Year old+ Petzl Tika headtorch.

I need a head torch mainly for running. So weight and a good headband are the main things I'm looking for. The Petzl stayied on my head well when running.

Would the Zebralight H32 be a good option? Looking at them there are lots of different codes? F, Fw, F L2 and so on.

Another option would be the Zebralight H600, I guess this would be heavier, but the advantage for me would be that it uses the same battery as my Xtar B20 Pilot II torch.

Any other ideas or things to consider?

I had one of those (Dad always buys me cheap *** for my birthday) - it died within 10 mins of some off roading - the emitter/pill shook itself to pieces.

Also - why the hell did they put strobe/sos on a bike light? PITA to cycle through unneeded modes. Just shows they used a cheap **** off the shelf driver. Wasn't even properly regulated.

I that exact combination of battery and torch and I'm very happy with it. The one thing I would have liked, would be for the torch to have a zoomable head.

I've bought one of those LED book lights, does that count? It's got a clamp and can be recharged via a USB cable. :D

I've failed haven't I? :(

Yes I know what you mean about the strobe/sos. Just no need for them. I'll see how long mine lasts.

Can anyone spec me some 18650 batteries for a JETBeam BC40?

I had some UltraFire ones but they not longer appear to charge :/

I'm not sure if the Protected ones will fit as I understand that they are a little longer than Unprotected, and they will need to be Button top as the Flat top dont work I believe.

Cheers

From memory the BC40 doesn't have physical reverse polarity protection and is sprung at both ends so can use most flat tops that work in series, such as AW. Also should be fine with protected cells as the springs allow for the extra length.

I would go for something like AW, Nitecore or Eagletac protected.

Steer well clear of the Ultrafire / Trustfire found on certain auction sites.
