Spec me an LED Torch

The makers website does though (second link)! Plus... I stumbled across a users review, which also comments on its 5 modes.

Guess i'll just have to send it back. What about this...

Any idea on how bright low is? Ideally I want something with a fairly low setting for general town use, but then have the option to turn it up when I visit my dad who lives in the middle of nowhere.

The Chinatorches rarely have a really low low, i've not used that torch so i can't comment directly though.

the iTP (soon to be Olight) EOS A1, A2 and A3 all have really really low lows.

What is a strike bezel anyway?

It's crenelation around the forward bezel of the light which serves two purposes. One, and this is the usefil one, is that it allows you to see immediately if you've left the light on when you put it down face-first on a flat surface. i've done this before and woke up in the morning with a flat torch - Cue me not happy.

Secondly, they make the lights minorly more useful as striking weapons, but torches with significant crenelation are considered to be offensive weapons. :(

Ordered some new lenses and some other bits and pieces including a cheap Solarforce torch as I like the silver look and have never had a torch with an MCE led so wanted to see what its like, says its rated at 800 lumens?.

http://kaidomain.com/ProductDetails.aspx?ProductId=10965

Said it was in stock and yet 4 weeks on I email them and they say they haven't even sent the order as the torch is out of stock. I didn't even get a confirmation email or anything. Also when I emailed them they said if we get it we will ship it to you.

Is that torch any good? Thinking of maybe swapping it for something else that's in stock.

it'll probably work fine, but i'd be shocked if you got more than about 500 actual lumens out of that.
The MC-E was an interesting LED before the XM-L came out, but the XM-L is brighter, more efficient and throws better due to a smaller emission surface.

It's also not a "real" solarforce, it's a chinese fake of the Solarforce, which itself is a chinese fake of the Surefire 6P.

you'd be better off buying directly from solarforce-sales though, their customer service is exceptional, unlike Kaidomain/Dealextreme, who suck :p

Just got my C8 XM-L as a bike light and WOW...amazing torch. Got it from manafont (much better postage speed than DX).

yay good to hear that you're happy with it.

care to post some pictures? does it have multiple modes because i hear that these things have a 2.8A draw and that'll suck most 18650's dry in about 30 minutes :)

Good to see this thread back alive again :D

I have the XM-L from Manafont but on my L2 and that easily lasts a few hours of usage. On some explores I have been in complete darkness for at least 2-3 hours and it's not had a battery drain problem. This is the 5 mode version btw.

Anyway, my tailcap switch was playing up on the L2 recently and SolarForce have said they will replace it \m/

I prefer the reflector size of my C8 though so am tempted to buy an XM-L C8 to accompany the XR-E C8 I already have and use the latter with an OP reflector and XM-L with smooth and then keep the L2 in the house only or something.

I just prefer the size of the C8 all round too really, even though the L2 is slimmer.

Was that on max though Khaaaaan? only two 18650's have more than 3000mAh of capacity, and one of those is a wierd samsung cell that charges to 4.35V instead of 4.2, so at 2.8A those would only last an hour.

I had it on for about 30 mins on constant coming back from the beach & is showing no signs of dying, still puts out the same amount of light. Anything specific you want a pic of?

Yes, 5 mode version running with Trustfire 2400mah.

just pics in general :)

My copy of a copy Solarforce has finally been shipped :). It'll probably be a pile of crap but never mind. I didn't know it was a copy but should have realised as I don't think Solarforce do any polished alu torches.

Also ordered a couple of new lenses.

Linky? Solarforce sell "gunmetal grey" torches that are quite similar to plain aluminium colour.

Also, solarforce fans will appreciate the information that solarforce are soon to release new 2011 version L2P's in black, grey, tan and BLUE, and they look stunning.
