Spec me an LED Torch

The beam will be exactly the same as the reflector hasn't changed, the intensity of the brightness will be greater though but by how much depends on how the XM-L version is driven.

Battery life will not be as high on the XM-L version though so maybe keep that in mind. The XR-E version can run for several hours before the juice is lost at max brightness, going by the XM-L on the SolarForce L2 I reckon the C8 XM-L will probably run for 2 hours ish at max.

I'd have made one out of a large bottle cap or something.

I had a look for a red lens cover that would fit the C8 the other day but couldn't find anything.

Solarforce do one that will fit bezels up to 32mm, but it looks like the C8 is larger than that.

i'm looking at getting a solarforce L2 i can get one from the uk for 30 pounds or i can get one from hong kong for 20.
is it worth a punt to get the one from hong kong? is it likely to be fake?
i'm also going to get the extension so i can have 2 battries in it which will be handy.

They come from HK anyway as SF is HK based :p

a genuine one will come with a worldwide warranty card (blue credit card sized thing). Buy it from SolarForce Sales website directly though tbh.

Also, got email back from JetBEam regarding smooth reflectors for the BC40!

our agent in U.K carry smooth reflector, u can buy it from there directly.

pls find their contact info: [email protected]

No problem!

I'm quite tempted to buy one of the 820 lumen dropins from there too as I noticed last night that the Manafont XM-L on my L2 has a gashed up reflector from my cleaning cloth ages ago, before I learnt that you should not touch the reflector!!

820 lumens and 3 modes seems just right :p

Edit*

Scratch that, £4 for a reflector only, job done :)

my google skills are failing me i can't find their sales website.
but i have found these guys http://www.taclight.co.uk/solarforce-torches/l2-cree-led.html

That site looks to be charging £18.95 for the body, and then another £28.95 for an XM-L drop-in

I got the L2 with 3-mode XM-L drop-in a couple of weeks ago direct from solarforce-sales for US$31 delivered (i.e. around £19.50)

http://www.solarforce-sales.com/product_detail.php?t=LF&s=45&id=305

You just have to be prepared to wait a week or two for it to arrive from Hong Kong.

Very pleased with mine. I'm not sure it genuinely delivers 820 Lumens (reviews of this drop-in on CPF report around 500 as it only draws 1.6A) however it is plenty bright enough for me.

So, an update from me....

After wanting a new torch, i now have three! :o

I blame you guys..... lol

The Cheapo Zoomable thing off the bay....

An Ultrafire C8...
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/280751589397?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2648

and the one i bought originally from Flashaholics, The Fenix LD20...
http://www.flashaholics.co.uk/fenix/fenix-ld20.html

Along with this charger, XTAR WP2 II and a couple of these for the Ultrafire.

Think i shall send the Fenix back as its good but surprisingly (at least to me anyway) outclassed by the other too for a fraction of the price.

The little ones going to live in the car me thinks, would make a perfect emergency light in the event that i need it....

EDIT: Must say though, i am dead impressed with the C8! Though am i missing something or can you not adjust the beam?

I keep all 3 in the car, you never know when you might need a light sabre battle on a foggy night :p

The zoomable stays at home as it's useful for seeing behind furniture and under the desk etc when messing with connections.

Actually thats not a bad idea, I have a *cough*Mini Maglite*cough* at home that i could replace with the zoomable..... :)

Maybe i should order another!? :o

Actually, out of interest, would i see better performance with a 14500 over the normal AA battery in the zoomable or is it not worth it?

Higher capacity would last longer but as Fenix and others have shown, digital circuitry can deliver a constant output until the battery gets too low as well.

If it's just an around the house light then I'd just keep it simple. A box of AAA/AA can be tucked into a cupboard for many years and will be instantly available :)

Thats my thinking too, i have quite a few Energizer 2500 rechargables at home that see to do ok, and its not like i need it to be any brighter! lol

'Higher drain'

Hi, I'm looking at buying 4 Senybor 2800mAh Li-ion batteries from TorchyTheBatteryBoy on eBay, and am looking at the 18650 3.7v and the 18650 3.7v 2C (5.6A drain).

My question is, what's good about a 5.6A drain? Higher potential current output right? But for most single or double 18650 flashlights, am I right in saying that this is pointless for me?

The 2C version is only £0.49p more expensive for two batteries, so price doesn't matter.

Thanks!

Side note: I'm slightly wary of a possible conflict of interest with these Senybors, since our friend has produced graphs showing them to be outstanding batteries and also sells them in large quantities :p.
