Spec me an LED Torch

I have joined the FireFly club today, I took delivery of the E07X Canon.

I really wanted the X4 Stellar but they didn't have navy in stock so I will have to wait.

Can anybody recommend me a decent torch with the following requirements please?

- Rechargeable
- Biggly amounts of use on a single charge
- Up to 1000 lumens
- Include a red light mode
- Not massive or tiny.

I swear we had a torch thread but my search skills fail me.

TIA

Is this the thread you're looking for?

Edit:damn beaten to it lol

Big fan of Olight personally, only downsides they are expensive and the straps can have a weakness where the small thread between the strap and the hook/ring snaps too easily. Aside from the Clip I'm not sure which variants have a red light mode though.

I'd be all over Perun 3 if Olight had more lights with USB C charging.

Olight Perun 3, or Perun Mini.
Fenix HM50R v2

I have all three and can highly recommend them all.

External charging is better anyway but despite using mine almost every single day, they only need charging about once a month, so the proprietary magnetic charger is no particular hardship. Just put it on for a couple of hours while you play a game or watch TV.

Looked at the Fenix too, 18650 version (HM61R) would have better run times for me but for some reason they used magnetic charging for that model. HM71R is USB C but an overkill probably, on a heavier side and pricey.

I'm basically looking for upgrade my 3xAAA Black Diamond headlamp for multi day camping trips so 18650 L shaped lights fit the bill and as I carry power bank with me, just be nice to be able to charge from that or any USB C charger in general when I'm travelling abroad for hikes as well.

I know there's a plethora of decent Chinese lights to match criteria too (like Wuben E7) but this is something I do use while I'm far from civilisation sort to speak and all kinds of conditions from pouring rain to minus temperatures so want something that I know will be reliable.

just how bright are these small torches in reality? the lumen claims are probably rubbish if its anything like bicycle lights.

can you actually feel the heat of the light on your skin?

I think my bicycle light good brand is supposed to be 2000 lumens, and the light feels warm to the skin

Any normal sized handheld versions?
Define 'normal'?
Perun 3 is about the size of a whiteboard marker, albeit thicker.

They're pretty accurate.
But "brightness" is more subjective and depends on how many of those lumens get focussed into the beam. Some are more like spots whereas others favour a more even flood.
Lumens are simply how much light is emitted overall. It's merely a quantity, used for marketing. You're better off looking either at the lux or candela measurements - a spot would have much higher candela than a flood, for example, even if both lights had the exact same lumen output.

You can melt plastic bags with some of them, so yes... and you'll feel the torch itself get hot after a while.

It might well be, but if all those lumens are spread out in a wide beam it won't appear as bright.

My newer Astrolux lights can make paper smoulder if you hold it above the torch for a few seconds while it's on maximum brightness. It's great for receipts printed on thermal paper too - just slowly move the paper so that any information you don't want is blacked out.
