Speccing a new PC!

Ok thanks i just dont liek to compromise mobos as they are a lot of effort to upgrade where as a cpu is an easy swap! everones said amazing things about that PSU so ill leave the xfx and corsair i think

That Cinebench I showed you is much better than I manged with a [email protected] which got 7.78

And I think the motherboard I selected looks nice, has the IR3550 powerstages as its part of the UP range and has eight dimm slots for more RAM later.

ill take a better look at the mobos and see whats there

Problem is, within certain period of time intel will move from socket 2011 to lets say 2014... Most likely CPU`s for 2014 will not work on 2011 so it really doesnt matter if you have 1000 quid 2011 motherboard, it wont work with 2014. You can buy 775 motherboard for 500 pounds, but it still will not run socket 2011 or 1155... So investing much into motherboards is useless...

So if tomorrow intel releases 1150 socket CPU`s, your 320 quid Asus rampage will not be able to take them.

fair point, i upgrade every 2-3 years though so i always skip a few sockets

so cheaper mobo and the 6 core is the way to go? then dont bother with the IB 2011 socket

If IB-E is the same sort of improvement as IB is over SB, then it may not be worth bothering with.

Its either 3930k or this 3770K

Psu is up to you, but I dont see a reason why XFX wouldnt cope for next 10 years.. As Wattage requirements drops all the time..

Since you seem to love ASUS maximus range, you could go with this

But it is mATX

right so 2011 SB 6 core might be the best choice in terms of keeping it for say 2-3 years? then take a cheaper mobo

best would be if IB 6 core was already here... But tbh SB and IB dont really have that much difference... Especially if you overclock IB gets crazy temperatures and becomes unstable.. You can overclock SB without any problems to reach same performance as IB.

I might be wrong but that Samsung is slower than OCZ I suggested, while being cheaper...

Gigabayte has RMA based in UK, so if anything goes wrong you can always sort it out quicker... Asus not too sure.

i trust asus and have heard negative words on those gigabyte boards on other forums.

The samsung comes out faster in benchmarks from what i saw so swapped it, was told OCZ are very unreliable as well

I would`ve picked a PSU from those ones ;

But if you love corsair, theres nothing wrong with it.

i wanted a gold classification and to minimise cost, its mainly due to having used corsair in every pc ive made and have having had an issue

I`d just add that 650W might be pushing it, if you decide to SLI your 670... With a bit of overclock they would consume 200W each.. 3930K is 130W with a bit of overclock that would be 550 + all other little stuff... I am not a pro on Wattage calculators but you might want to look into it, unless you just want 1 GPU.

Being gold certified it should handle it, but it might sound like a helicopter.

Just realised you are on here also since we been speaking otherwise.

I know you wont SLI your card but I would I would suggest the 750w psu I suggested before. The RAM is fine and probably best bang for buck but if you want flashy then

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-331-CS&groupid=701&catid=8&subcat=817

that would be the option for you ;)

Kind Regards,

Adam

ah hey, posted across a few forums to get a range of opinion so good to see you here!

I hate the look of vengeance ram though, i like the ones with the lights on and stuff!

Ill swap out the PSU if you guys think itll be an issue.

Are gold series louder then? i want it as quiet as possible really and would probably sacrifice anything to keep it quiet...

and that SSD??

Well corsair isnt for you then...

Gold,Platinum and better than bronze :p

Generally if you have a good PSU with high W capacity most of the time it doesnt even turn the fan on.

SSD is ok I guess.. benchmarks look nice

ok is there a PSU known for being silent / near silent without smashing my budget?

When you say SSD looks ok 'i guess' is there anything wrong? i thought it was the fastest currently..
