Speedlink Medusa 5.1 Headset Owners' Thread

Had no problems up untill recently although they have served me a long 1 year plus.

Loud hissing only removable by turning all the inline volume controls down to min and slowly increasing to just before the hissing point.

Mic boom pivot became losoe and mic would not stay in its set position.

Break in cable/connections causing a very loud 'wind' like noise over the mic when cable was moved.

Replaced with another set of cans now.

anyone else getting a lot of noise when using the mic? also i think the centre channel is not working on mine as the centre sound adjustment doesnt seem to do anything at all, any ideas how to fix? using the onboard sound btw, it fully supports 5.1 so thats not an issue!

personally i think these are just a gimmick. Poor built quality such as the headband that didnt fit my head (i dont have a pea head but they were too big) the microphone just stopped working on mine. anyway ive sent them back and have already ordered some sennheiser ones which im sure will be better

You must have got some bad ones, as the ones ive got, that ive had for well over a year now, are very sturdy and fit fine.
Prehaps like most people you already had pre-conceptions about the headphones based on make.

GGot mine from OCUK this morning...annnnnnnnd knackered straight out of the box,amp seems to be fine as my inspire 5.1 speakers work great through the amp,but...the inline remote control OR the socket on the amp for the headphones is b0rked,i know this much because:
Front wheel on remote works as intended
Rear wheel on remote controls center sound!?! (center sound also seem completely on the left,no right at all
Center wheel controls rear left sound!?!
VIB wheel controls Vibration AND rear right (rear right very quiet also)

was recommended these by a friend and i must say,my first impression is that these are a heap of poo,i hope i can get the remote thing sorted out...might even have to go for a 5.1 headset that connects straight to my card...such as the Sharkoon 5.1 headset:
http://www.sharkoon.com/all_eng.htm

i also saw some on **** that were on auction quite cheap and connected directly to the soundcard, can anyone shed light on my Medusa problem? or share a similar experience and explain what happened?

I was more than happy with mine,

Went from using the headset that came with guild wars (logitech chat iirc) which were that uncomfortable you couldnt wear them for any long spans of time and they were damn sharp !

Havin a bit of a fiddle with settings and stuff, cant get music to sound very good at all it appears turning the rear and centre completely off reduces some of the fuzz but listening to evanscence and they sound a bit pants (headset not the band:p, altho im sure there are many of you that hate the band too :p)

Also just realised bass is next to non existant and turning vib right up makes it sound worse.

gonna have a bit more fiddle tomorrow.

Im using the o/b sound on an epox 9npa+ultra

EDIT:

Amp even a touch over 50% = no no

I had that at first but its just the jacks are plugged in wrong

switch them around until it sounds right (did this with 5.1 movie)

Mine ended up weakening then snapping just above one of the cans. They had been used and abused for well quite a while though.

The sound quality is alright but clearly not as clean as a decent pair of Sennheiser/Grado/etc.

I'd be willing to bet that the majority of owners don't have the equipment/software set up properly for 5.1 and especially to upmix normal stereo to use all of the speakers.

And you couldn't figure out from this that you had them connected wrong?

Anyway, WRT some of the other posts above, mine are still working. Sure they don't sound amazing, but they are only £35, so spread that cost over headphones with 8 speakers, mic, amp and all those wires, and of course they're gonna be cheap speakers. They sound good enough to play games on though, and the surround sound does work if you get them setup right (you have to set your soundcard output to 5.1 btw not headphones).

If you want surround sound for late night gaming when you can't use your speakers - they're decent for the money.

I've had mine quite a while now and I'm still happy with them.

The headphones themself are still in perfect working condition. The Amp however has stopped working. It only outputs the left channel, right is dead as a dodo.

How do, just received my Medusa headphones and I have them connected correctly (the speak test proves this) but I have little or no bass on the rear and centre speakers (very very tinny)...

Anyone else had this? Ive tried turning off CMSS-3D as suggested on the support pages but that dont work.

Any ideas???? Its really annoying in games as the action in front sounds brill but behind sounds awful...
