Speedlink Medusa 5.1 Headset Owners' Thread

Ok, After using mine for quite a while. Something is wrong now. The center channel on my Right headset distorts. The bass has gone all tinny and isn't as powerful as it used to be and generally, the sound has gone worse. They used to go really loud first but now, they sound crap, Basically, there is no bass anymore and all my speakers work.

I think i'm going to rma them:(

well after 2 days of use i have come to the conclusion that they just dont cut the mustard, I will be reverting to my senhensier HD25's with far superiour sound quality!, even though they are just stereo i can hear more of whats going on around me,

I have read that the X-FI card has VERY GOOD psuedo surround sound with a pair of stero cans can anyone here confirm this?????

Hmmm I have a similar problem. My sound over the past few weeks has got steadily more biased towards the left with my right headset sounding distorted (particularly the bass - it sounds awful).

When I test the five speakers seperately the front right is quite severely quieter than the others.

I've contacted Speedlink, just have to wait and see what they say.

I have a pair of the standard 5.1's but ive been having no end of trouble with Tiny Rear sound which i finally fixed, however now im getting a lot of noise in the rear channel which can only be fixed with furious wiggeling of the headphone connector..

The mini amp is a nice feature but the build quality of the whole unit is rubbish..

Ideally you need a nice pair of 5.1 headphones with a ditachable mic the mini amp isnt really needed and if you need one get a proper amp this thing just isnt up to it..

I am going to get some wireless headphones to try out next so i can use them cycling also.. only 2 channels but at least it should solve a lot of issues ive been having..

Overall review f the past few months with my Madusa's:

Sound Positioning : GOOD
Sound Quality: AVG / GOOD
MIC: GOOD
Build Quality: VERY BAD
Price: GOOD (But id be willing to pay a lot more for somthing better)

I havnt tested the CMSS on my Fatal1ty card yet but i have heard its the best upmixing out there.. But i dunno if it can do it on the fly in games.. Ideally you need some sort of real time dolby Headphone encoder from 5.1 digital source.. But i don think they exist yet.

Unfortunately they do seem to be hit and miss for build quality. I'd happily spend another £10 on top of the standard £40 price for a better overall production. Pity Speedlink seem to think cutting corners is the best way to make a sale.

Just seen this thread after having my Medusa/Speedlink headset (non-USB) for a while.

Firstly I have to say thanks for the tips about not to have the in-line volumes up on full causing a faint static sound.

I am pretty happy with them on the whole. The only thing that annoys me is that if my mobile phone is near the amp I get an interference noise when receving/sending texts/calls however I don't know if this was exaggerated because of my in-line settings.

i am thnkining of buying a pair. after reading the last few posts they have made me think twice now. can anyone help me regain positive thoughts on buying a pair. i dont want to buy them and then 2 weeks/months later have to RMA them or something!

another thing before i buy, how long is the cable comin from the headset? would need it to be pretty long... i watch films from my bed, about 3-4 meters from my bed to the where the amp will be sitting!

Picked these headphones up for £27 new and even now I question the value. I personally wouldnt recommend these phones to anyone. They are average - nothing special about them. The build quality is indeed hit and miss. The mic on mine went within 4 months but at that price I cant be assed to RMA them. They are a comfortable set of phones that you can wear for extended periods but be under no illusion about uber-surround sound - its basically a gimmick. They do go some way to address surround sound issues but lets be fair - if you're gonna be wearing headphones do you honestly believe you can compare it to dedicated surround sound systems (Even budget ones)?

You get what you pay for and as long as you realise this before you part with your money you should be well prepared for what you receive. Personally I would suggest going for a decent pair of stereo headphones instead.

thats ok, im def not goin to get them, i probably wont even use them anyway.

lets just hope my gf hasnt bought them for me, she seen me looking at them the other day and said she was goin to get them. id rather have a gaming mouse and a pad
