Split Air con

I could be wrong but I think the VAT on AC installation is still 5%. It might be worth asking the installer to confirm the VAT rate to be sure what you will pay come completion.

Those Mitsubishi units have a heat mode when looking at their documentation.

I did. I was told by one is not and I was told by another one they could honour the 5% so not quite sure what’s going on. Checking online I believe it is not 5% anymore.

Hmm I am not sure then. I've read some info that mentions if the material cost is less than 60% then 5% VAT can be claimed, if higher then only the labour can be claimed at 5%.

My quote was similar to yours and I paid 5% VAT in April 2020. I think the materials was around 50% of the total cost.

Ours was 5% in November

Could you let me know the name of the companies you use please?

So im looking at have the air con installed and was given the following prices (Cash job so excludes VAT) fitted including electrics:

£4.5k - 4 Daikan units on 1 condenser

£1.3k - 1 Daikan Unit 1 condenser

£2.7k - 2 Daikan unit 1 condenser

Just wondering if the prices above seem good? He seemed to prefer to fit Daikan as he mentioned they are good and quiets etc. Also, he mentioned that these are cheaper to heat your home compared to Gas? In terms of running cost how have you guys found them?

It seems reasonable to me. I paid 4k for 3 units (mitubishi electric) inc the 5% vat.

We used ours a lot last year and I think we paid about £100 extra on our electric bill between April and September. I am keeping a much closer eye on our meter readings this year though and have been recording them so should be able to have a better idea of useage.

With regards to heating, I only used them this year to test the heat works. I just used the central heating to heat the house - it's nice to know I have a decent backup in 3 bedrooms though if I ever have boiler issues.

What kW are the units?

For ref we paid around 4.7k inc 5% VAT for the above, 2x 5kW linked to 2 indoor units (1:1), and ours was a relatively straightforward job

I paid £3200 (including VAT) for 3 indoor 1 outdoor Mitsubishi wifi enable
2kw
1.5kw
5kw
Condensers 7.2kw
Sub cool FM which was recommended here. Excellent job and all done within a week from the quote been received.

That sounds like a good price @Cooperto85. I think mine was more expensive with Sub cool FM as one room required an extra day due to waiting on scaffolders to build a platform above my garage.

Have you got any pics?
