***SPOILERS AHOY!!!*** Football 1st-5th Jan

Nailed on with cleverly, but if you watched anything of him playing for watford last year, you know he's 10 times the player you're seeing playing today.

I know Fergies said he's got good relations with the club, so he'll probaly stick at Wigan for the season. Alex is at the game today though, and surely he's got to be thinking the lads being held back being forced to play kick and rush with virtualy nothing to feet.

Last season i could realy see the lad as the new giggs while he was at watford, watching it today you could never say that.

Cleverly is a very good player and looks above Wigan tbph. Not sure about whether he is/will be United quality, but we do give Gibson game time so...

Tiote is a **** as well. Half the Newcastle team is these days it seems, hope they go down again this year more than anyone else.

Fortunately there are poorer teams than us out there.

I don't understand the Newcastle hate this season. We play better football than a lot of teams in the PL but we have the ability and desire to get stuck in if that what it takes. It seems the Barton hate is transferred across onto Newcastle in general. I'm happy to take up the Stoke fans attitude though. **** you all, I don't care what it takes as longas we stay up! :)

Just lacking something, players didnt seem bothered, passing and formation was terrible, making no excuses but its going to be a long season, might stay up, might go down, need someone who can score.

Like who? I have to say Newcastle are the worst team I've seen Spurs play this season. Just didn't turn up to play football at all.

It's not just Barton, Tiote and Smith are possibly worse than him.

surely you mean new Scholes - Cleverly is a CM not a wide player like Giggs

Having two games in hand isn't always a blessing though. Means you have to fit those in amongst other fixtures and potentially end up having another little Christmas period of your own later in the season.

Blackpool game is scheduled for approx the time Utd have played latter rounds of CC matches in the last 2 - 3 seasons, so its no big deal at all

Would prefer the Chelsea match to be a little earlier in the season than March, but it does give the team time to work on the dreadful away performances (and typically Utd are about at their peak in March) but just as easily Chelsea COULD be completely out of the title race by then also .......

Nasty run of cosecutive games admittedly in that month and a bit time scale - but there are some good gaps between a few of them (Im guessing FA Cup dates and not applicable CC ones too)

Cleverly is 10 times the player Gibson ever was/is, I hope Utd recall him from Wigan even if its just for impact sub duties to rest Scholes through difficult periods like the one above

He can play across all of the midfield, but SAF has seemingly said he will be using him down the left wing, hense why he's been thinking of getting him back with Park being away.

Heh, 1-0 down then.. early in though, wednesday look as good for a goal as hudders do.

On the TC thing though, just giggs came to mind after watching him playing for watford last year. He was often diving down the flanks, and to be fair moving down the channels and playing some nice fast link up play through the middle. If sir alex wants him in for park, id say thats a good match on paper, even if he doesn't have parks expierence, which counts for a heck of a lot, one of the reasons park does so well for united.

Majority of his games upto now have been central positions - or thats certainly the impression Ive got upto now

Park's also used pretty centrailly (but quite often alternates within a given game with teh wide player) - but even without considering Park, Cleverly is needed for when Scholes cant play imo

Think Cleverly will end up being a CM more than anything:)

Will be interesting to see how Cleverly does when/if he gets games back at United. Never always guaranteed to replicate the same form.

Same with Welbeck in that regard.

If I was Welbeck I'd leave. Not every player fits in at any one club, he's young and found what seems to be a really good system at Sunderland. Take advantage of that, especially if you return to United he's going to be behind Berbatov, Rooney, Hernandez and one other guy.

I'd Take Welbeck back if Fergie was going to play him like Bruce has at sunderland.

He wont though, as the team doesnt have the muscle in midfield to play the 4-3-3 required for him to play in.

The majority have been out wide on the left but he is a player that favors cutting in to the middle a lot.

He isn't like Ryan Giggs running the wings, but he isn't the same as Scholes either.

EDIT:

On the striker front -

Macheda will be going out on loan, and it's heavily rumoured to be to Sampdoria - something I can't see him coming back from really. If it's a EPL side then it's possbile to stay, but his agents comments are looking like it will be a 6 month loan to Italy, then if it goes well possible to extend it by another year or United can take him back.

Mame Diouf I can see us shipping him off to a PL league club, someone like Blackburn where he is at now, I can't see him fitting with us as of yet.

Welbeck I think is possibly the most likely of these 3 to stay - from Fergies recent comments he's been very impressed with his progress, and is wanting him to push for the England squad.

Fergie has also been interviewed and said he regards Bebe to be a striker as well, someone not yet to consider with these 3 but is likely to feature in his plans, and also commenting that he can play Obertan up top as well.
