I'm also somewhat confused by the opening section. It appears something catastrophic happened, I'm in possession of a bit of stuff that was manufactured as a result of it, and I was given a gizmo (scanner) into which this item was placed and I had to charge it up using an anomaly. But after recharge the scanner is now swiped, and I guess my ultimate primary objective is to get it back. I'm not sure what the significance is of the thing...is it just potential worth a crazy amount to the character ?
Something like that. In the opening section, that artifact explodes and it destroys your apartment. It appears to be special, so you try to recharge it, as artifacts loose their power outside of the zone and "die". The one you have is special and can be recharged. So basically, since you've lost your home and have nothing left, it appears your life isn't worth that much to anyone else and you go risk it, ergo your adventure into the Zone.

Or so it is for the time I've played it.

It's janky as hell.

Last night I was involved in a big firefight, part of a main story mission. All NPC's look so near identical it's impossible to tell friend from foe unless one of them is shooting you. While I was in cover it spawned four enemies close behind me, who walked either side of my position - completely ignoring me - towards the main fight. Noticed they had red triangles on the compass so started shooting one, and then suddenly all the opposing side spontaneously died.

One other incident yesterday was when I stealth knifed a lone Ward soldier, only to find there were actually two in *exactly* the same place. The second shotgunned me to death while I was trying to figure out WTF was going on.

If this was a Ubisoft release it would be getting absolutely pilloried. I'm still enjoying it despite the ridiculous bugs and very questionable AI, much like Star Wars Outlaws.
