Stalker 2

At times I am tempted just to play at 1440p instead of 4K purely for the silence, and as it's an OLED with a decent scaler, 1440P visually looks rather excellent at 32" so no real loss other than smaller res screenshots :p I should actually do some proper DSLR screen phtoos showing what it looks like between both resolutions in the monitors section.

Won't game with HDR, won't game at 240hz mode, won't game with gsync on and now won't game at 4k..... what is the point of having the aw32  :D @TNA have a word with mrk here :p

Who says I don't game at 240Hz?!?!?!?!

I game at a fixed 240Hz, none of this VRR flicker-ridden Gsync nonsense people tolerate lol

Ah I thought you limit that too since you cap your fps to 100 or whatever for lower fan speed thus quieter system?

VRR flicker is very annoying at times but couln't game without vrr now so just have to make do until the next gsync ultimate version comes along.

Nope 240Hz with games capped to 100-120fps, STALKER is at driver locked 120fps for example, this is the mitigation factor, because no VRR is in use and no Vsync, the 240Hz mitigates any visible tearing thanks to the fast refresh rate. It looks super smooth as a result which is one of the plus points of being able to do this without needing VRR and thus eliminating VRR flicker which exists on all VRR displays across the board. Some folks may not notice it in all games though, but it absolutely exists in games like Silent Hill 2, the STALKER 2 main menu and in-game when certain grey shades are present and all games with uneven frame times.

It's so common that RTINGS has started to measure the extent of VRR flicker in all monitor reviews as well.

Yup I did say this all along when I got the aw32 and compared it to the aw34dw :p

I still have my aw34dw, will need to hook it up again to try some games on it as stated in the aw32 thread, because of the gsync module, it is a better monitor for gaming when your fps is below 70 imo. Hopefully 5080/5090 will provide enough grunt to drive the aw32 for these newer demanding games.

50 series won't make a single bit difference if games release with poor frametime optimisation though, it will just make the issue more obvious as hitches will be more frequent rather than less frequent at a lower fps but with larger spikes as frames hang around longer etc.

True to an extent but if frame gen is improved even further and the base fps is high enough with more grunt, this could overcome the issues or at the very least, minimise, of course it depends entirely on what FPS we're talking about....

I notice flicker in STALKER 2 menu, not noticed any while playing. But never go looking for ot either.

So far, it only seems to be the really heavily populated areas that prove to be a problem for me, performance wise.
Otherwise, at 1440p I'm usually seeing around 80 - 125 fps, sometimes less/more. Just about everything is set to Epic; DLSS - quality + FSR 3 Frame Generation.

My CPU/GPU seem to be an ideal match where this game is concerned. I don't think I'd be able to move up too much higher where the GPU is concerned, before I consistently run into a CPU bottleneck.
Though, I suppose it's very much game dependent. However, that's exactly what I am going to do first (upgrade the GPU), and then follow up with the rest of the system. Probably AM5.

Played a bit further and 3 things encountered...

1: The game seemed to progress break just after I helped a dude I spotted on the way who lost his friend in a little field of anomalies and wanted my help. I promised not to loot the body of his friend but did anyway to his anger, stole an artefact and when I click P to inspect artefact it showed an invisible HUD with press to escape the inspection and then did nothing lol.

2: Another NPC I helped heal and he then marched around and shot using an invisible gun:

3: Beard pop-in!

Rather annoying.

For #1 I will have to reload an old save as forgot to quick save, will have to mash quick save at every step of the way from now on, no guess on when the game will bug you out like that again.

Wanted to have a blast before work and CTD every time. Was working fine last night  I've verified files but just crashes to desktop when you try and load a save
