Stalker 2

It seems like a bit of a lottery reading everything in this thread, but I haven't really had any issues with it after about 20 hours. The only mod I'm using is one that clearly labels the different ammo types which just replaces some images. Nothing that changes the engine or experience.
That's great to hear, thank you. Yeah hopefully when I get to it, it will be fine but to be honest the last game had a lot of bugs for me but I really enjoyed it nonetheless

Yeah early on it was a bit of a mess bug wise, but a concerted campaign to route out major game breaking bugs and performance issues solved a lot of the initial problems. Though it appears there is a bit of a lottery on stability. Some get away with a smooth play through others suffer.
I think at this stage its very much a case of "milage may vary". I had a couple early game braking issues that were solved by reloading earlier saves. Plus an enduring performance issue on long play sessions. However it appears my experience has been one of the better ones. Most of my issues were patched out in early patches. As it stands I've paused shy of the end before you reach the point of no return for the end game. As the masochist I am quite happy to just stop where I am. I have decided to wait for all DLC to release before I finish the game.
Cheers - that does seem to be the concensus. Has the DLC been officially confirmed or is it just a rumor at the moment? I may get the "GOTY edition" or similar which I'm sure they'll do if they're going to release a DLC

How do you tell how far you are thru the story, does steam tell you somewher ? I've about 60hrs of playtime and >200 deaths !

The story at times leaves an awful lot of time between places where you can upgrade/trade etc, meaning I end up short of ammo, and carrying too much stuff, and by the time I get to a refuge, all of money coming from loot is used to repair my stuff, and have little left for actual upgrades.

It was about 10 hrs into the game before I realised you could do a manual save, I thought it was autosave only.

I never saw a mission percentage in the game, i just checked the mission name against a walkthrough to see how far i had left.

You can return to a nearby friendly camp at any time to upgrade / trade and there are usually missions available from the barkeep if you need to make some quick cash.

yeah, I'm wondering maybe I'v missed out on a camp, also sometimes I end up overburdened and the slog is too much, or I'm so low on ammo/health that I know I'll get taken out before I can make it back. So I scavenge as best I can and keep dying and having another go until I hit lucky with my kills. I guess scavenging is the stalker way !

I'm trying hard not to use youtube or whatever to solve puzzles. There was one that I did, I couldn't figure out how to get into a room, nothing on the roof, no hole in the floor etc. And I was desperate for health/ammo and could see a safe in there. After about 30 mins I gave up and youtube told me the rather obvious thing of
shoot thru the window to destroy the plank of wood across the inside of the door

Be selective with what you pick up don't collect heavy stuff with little resale value, only carry enough food bandages and medkits to keep you going, don't get involved in fights you can't win - drink an energy drink and get the hell out, collect ammo and a selection of guns that use different ammo, once you run out of ammo for one gun swap it for one you have a stash of ammo for, yeah scavenging is important especially early on.

I know what you mean about the puzzles, some of them require you to have 100% stamina to make the required jump, so you can end up trying it a couple of times and end up thinking you've got the wrong entrance but you haven't. But I think it's the lack of handholding that helps to make it a great game.

drink an energy drink and get the hell out,
Top tip, mix it up between Energy drink and water. Water is much more effective, slows stamina expenditure and even pauses it momentarily. Energy drink replenishes more and speeds up regen but increases hunger. I got into a habit of carrying two of both to get me out of a bind.

Finished my first play through and I thoroughly enjoyed it despite the fact I never once had the first clue what was going on with the story, every conversation with an NPC seemed to be a load of unconnected gibberish.

After a long session where i somehow managed not to die for a while, I was back at the sphere and there were loads of bodies around. My FPS (which is normally around 90) was struggling to get into double digits, and I noted the VRAM usage on on 12GB 4070 was more than 11GB.

saving, quiting and restarting got the FPS back up again, with the VRAM around 9GB

Stalker 2 was one of the 70~ games confirmed for a day 0 patch for the new nvidia GPUs, so maybe GSC has rolled all their latest fixes into it. So it looks like the 30th might be it.

I've got to the mission where I need to go to SIRCAA and this is where people say the game breaks quite hard and feels untested.
It's taken over 92hrs to get to this point as I've been going as slow as possible, doing side missions and trips to stashes etc.

Going slow and doing lots & lots of stash runs means my own stash is now full of some of the best weapons, attachments, artifacts etc, but most of all, ammo. I have over 500 and often well over 1000 of pretty much every type of ammo and over 1 million coupons. The only mod I'm using which affects coupons is the 50% repair cost. I know the economy can be hard for people if they just push through the story, but I gear up at a base and hit 3 or 4 stashes at a time. That along with the random gunfights/looting on my travels is bagging me loads of cash. The story can wait for another patch, I'm enjoying just exploring and having random fights
