STALKER: Call of Pripyat

If you can't tell I'm in my usual Chernobyl background reading phase while waiting for a stalker game to come in the post :D

I thought i was the only one! haha.

mine came last night but the GF is here so cant play....

Really enjoying this and apart from a few lock ups and restarts required to put the settings how I wanted them I've not had any bugs or crashes.

Well mine came yesterday morning but Ive not had much chance to play apart from getting to the boat, and then venturing outside to do a mission to the south. I got sidetracked when I noticed a stalker being taken out by a one or two dogs, I decided to go look if he had anything worth salvaging on him.

When I got over there I finished off one of the dogs and the rest of them ran away. But then I saw two glowing white eyes coming at me and I had my blood sucked on, Game Over.

Monsters have been buffed up in this game.

Ive also noticed a few misspelled words here and there, and a small part of my manual is in french :S.

I'd forgotten how damn hard the STALKER games are.

I'm about 12 hours in, 1920x1080, DX11, all maxed out (no AA), i've used the force 60hz option with no vsync, for the most part it's running really well with the occasional slow down. The Soundcard only works through the generic settings, though it sounds superb.

Is this not available to pre order through Steam yet?

It's good there is a free play mode when you complete the story, was that in Clear Sky?

Its not on steam at the moment, its in all the shops though like play and amazon for about £17.

I hope this isn't as bug ridden as Clear Sky, I recently bought CS and got several hours into it saved the game ducking under something and now whenever I load the game the character is stuck... couldn't be bothered to start again from scratch.

I must be further than half-way through the game and I haven't had a single bug or crash surprisingly. There have been a few minor glitches but nothing worth mentioning. Thoroughly enjoyed it so far. Took an hour or two to get use to everything again.

For people starting the game I recommend you go to the Saw Mill and kill all the Zombies there to get some good loot early in the game (using a Hunting Shotgun will make this easier). Seems that decent guns and armour are hard to come by. I've only ever found 1 other suit and it was the same as the one I already had so I had to place an order with the guy in the ship.

Can some one tell me how anomalies and artefacts are handled?

Is it soh style or CS style?

I'd love CS style but with the coh re spawning (but not nessicerily same quality of artefact each time).

Question about the game- do any areas from the last two games crop up, i.e. direct copy across? And how big are the new areas in comparison?

As far as I can see only Pripyat but I believe it will be a different part. There are three main areas, all quite large around the size of Cordon or Garbage (maybe bigger) from the SOC, with a central safe area where you have a bed and storage box along with all the merchants.

It's a little different. Most anomalies are grouped together in one area all of the same type. So you get burner anomalies all hudled together in one area around a burnt down farm and lightning anomalies all in a power station. Most of the artifacts are found at these places but you do also get a few smaller patches some of which are in buildings or underground facilities. There are no ramdom areas full of anomalies like the last games and all major areas are marked on your map. You use the sensors like in CS but you'll next the third generation one to find the artifacts of most worth. You also find some unique one off artifacts which are mainly part of mission objectives but you can keep them if you want.

Quite a few bugs here though nothing thats put me off. Certainly isn't as bugged as CS on launch.

Also, I think... though I may be wrong, that when an emmission/blow out happens, there is a 'safe' location that comes up on your PDA. But someone may have to correct me on that.

Yes, a safe zone will come up on your map, unless you are already in one. It has to be more than a hut in the middle of nowhere though.
So far I have found this game to be what Stalker and Clear Sky should have been. Stable enough to play out of the box. :D
The atmosphere is spot on. It's not unlike watching the Jack Nicholson version of The Shining-not much going on at times but the way it's all done makes you think there will be something bad any second. It really keeps the blood pumping.
It's the best Stalker game yet.

Think yer right, as when i was hiding under a metal doorway thing when there was an emission going off, there was a big yellow flashing cross with arrows on it (appeared on the radar), not far away from my position (looked to be pointing at the ship i was right next to), so was probably that i should have headed for, as i died :D
