Star Trek Online

Thanks CR.
In what way is D2D version of this game better?

Also theyre selling it for £45! not much cheaper really.
Probably better to get it offline for cheaper perhaps? Is there anyone else online doing it for cheaper than Steam/D2D?

Just more bonuses with D2D e.g. Joined Trill Race that I don't think Steam is offering (I could be wrong). I don't think there are many other ways to get into the beta now (certainly not cheaply). However, you can compare all offers at http://www.startrekonline.com/retail. Tbh you won't be missing much from the open beta anyway. Just wait for the headstart and more of the bugs will have been removed :)

Very sensibly put heh :D
AH HOLD ON!
It says the standard STO edition comes with a open beta key!
And its £35 which is not bad! You make that out too?

Didn't think of that. Yes, you should get it from the standard edition too. Depends what price you are willing to pay :)

Ok Im a few clicks away from buying this.
What would I be missing from the Deluxe Edition compared to the standard edition (apart from the box/DVD paper gubbins).

Through the digital retailers - just a few bonus items that will quckly become obsolete, except for the joined trill race skill bonus, a few emotes and the NX prefix

Through the other retails just the items you mention.

I ordered the deluxe from D2D, but it all depends on how much you want to spend (keeping in mind there will be a sub) and how badly you want all of the bonus extras.

Feel free to ask anything else, I know way too much about this game :s

Thanks CR I appreciate it :)
Joined trill race - You saying I wouldnt be able to select trill as a race if I bought the standard version?
Emotes - Emoticons in the game?
NX Prefix - You saying you can give your Ship a number and it starts with NX? And that it wouldnt be available to non-Deluxe users? (i.e. would NCC be available for example?)

Joined trill race - Just an additional race that gets a few extra skills. Annoyingly, not available at headstart but only on actual release day! So I will probably not get to use this one anyway. I prefer making my own race anyway though.

Emotes - Yes, emoticons e.g. waving etc

NX Prefix - You will get NX rather than USS...I quite like this one :). No it will not be available to standard edition players. Basically you choose your name and rather than USS Insertnamehere it will be NX Insertnamehere. Not sure how ship number is assigned. Some ID that I don't understand!

How'd you know there are no more Beta keys left from that company?

I wouldn't get it from steam, it's almost double the price

Says

EXPIRED:Beta Testing and Game Headstart--If you have pre-ordered Star Trek Online with us at Amazon.co.uk before 11:59pm on Thursday the 7th of January 2010, you'll receive two separate codes--one which provides both beta testing access from the 12th of January and a headstart to the game from the 29th of January; and one for the in-game Borg Bridge Officer.

on Amazons preorder section, O take it to mean the head start/beta offer with key has expired

Thats smashing. Cheers CR you've been a great help.

Is there any difference between the Deluxe Edition and Gold Edition?

The PvP looks like fun :)

Hopefully it fleshes out a little, not sure what level he is in that stream but it looked like all he was doing was targetting an enemy and then spamming the Space bar to fire all weapons. Hopefully there is a little more depth and a variety of different maneuvers and tactics you can use rather than just whacking the space bar repeatedly.

More digital in-game bonuses with the deluxe edition and more physical items with the gold edition. Just different bundles really.

Ok cool and final question!

If I purchased this online, I could download it immediately correct?
If I purchased it offline, and wanted to play the open beta, would I have to wait till they dispatched the DVD which is February? Or will they send it out immediately?

There are a lot more abilities that you get with your ship and bridge officers as you level up. It is a little bit spammy at lower levels, but a lot less so at higher. Cryptic are also likely to give combat more depth - remember this is beta and there is still a lot not included and still a few big patches to come.

I think D2D have released the client for download now. There will also be a small patch to download, probably tomorrow.

If you purchase offline, I am not sure if any of them will let you into the open beta now. They will however send you the headstart code in a few weeks (most of them seem to have this offer) and then you will have a grace period after release (during which you can continue to play) while you wait for your DVD box with the key inside.

Yea how does this headstart code thing work anyway?
I thought the Open Beta code is the "headstart code"?
Or are there two separate codes?

At this point in time it looks like D2D is the option I may go for...

Good good, that would be more promising than what I watched on that stream, didnt seem to be much involved in the pvp at all other than click target , whack space bar. Though as I say he could be a low level.

Any idea whether that additional depth will come before release? If theres still a lot not included with it releasing in a few weeks have they said whether they will manage to get it done in time?

If you purchase a DVD copy, you get emailed an open beta key which you can use on the STO website.

I've put my key into my account already... just waiting for the client to be released for the open beta client download now :)

So you register the open beta key on their website and they give you a link to download the client or something?
