Star Trek Online

Klingons are in a better shape than at launch, quite a few missions for them and they have full access to all the feature episode series. Levelling a KDF character is still a pretty nasty grind and the lower level PvP is fairly dead.

Ahh booo :( was hoping to run around screaming qapla while progressing through the game :p

It's unlikely to be patched on steam since it uses it's own launcher to update and not steam (I think)

10gb is about right for its installed size though.

Just checked my folder, 9.50Gb's in 90 files. I think the version that Steam will pump you is very out of date now, so there will be a lot of patching afterwars once the Cryptic loader starts.

Confirmed and official, STO will be F2P by end of the year.

Check the official forums or search google at places about mmo's for the news. Sto forums down atm but was working 30 mins ago which is where i read the info.

Here is one place with info for you tho.

During a question and answer session between investors and Perfect World Entertainment's CEO Michael Chi and CFO Kelvin Lau it was revealed that a free to play version of Star Trek Online will be launched before the end of 2011.

And also Star Trek Online, after the acquisition, in fact Cryptic is working on the free-to-play model for Star Trek Online. This is going to be launched by the end of this year as well. So I think free-to-play model we have a bigger potential in US market and also in China market. Thank you.

In addition to this news, PWE indicated that the Runic's Torchlight MMO is projected to be released in late 2012 or early 2013 and Neverwinter will come along during the same time period.

Torchlight from Runic, as mentioned, I think the MMORPG version is going to be – is scheduled to be launched in late 2012 or early 2013, okay? For Cryptic games, Neverwinter, I think our schedule is going to – trying to launch the game in late 2012 or early 2013. So we are going to launch the game in US first and then followed by Asian countries.

People who payed for a lifetime sub got a bit ripped off then?

Not unless they paid for a lifetime way back when the game was first released. Cos if you think about it, it pretty much paid for almost 2yrs worth and then some.

But if you paid for lifetime sub in the last 6mths or so, then yeah, you got ripped off. But it seems this is happening a lot.

I paid a lifetime sub for DC Universe Online back in April and I can see it being F2P in the next year or so. That being said, I am pleased I paid the lifetime sub so dont have to worry about paying monthly.

Thankfully I did pay for a lifer sub when it first came out.
Sadly I stopped playing after about 4-5 months.

I suspect every mmo will do this (WoW aside) so I won't be buying any lifer subs again.

All ships current and future will not be able to be bought for credits anymore but dilithium. So you cant buy ships anymore as you used to.

http://forums.startrekonline.com/showthread.php?p=3730037#post3730037

There are alternate ship variants like the Rhode Island coming to nearly every tier and class of ship. All of those ships will be available for cpoints. All of the ships that you can currently purchase for EC are going to be purchased via Dilithium. Dilithium is replacing Emblems/Badges/Marks/Etc and can be earned at all tiers (plus you are given some as rewards). Many ships (Dilithium and Cpoints) are going to be repriced in the near future. Then if you factor in a subscribers stipend, and the ability to trade cpoints for dilithium - then subscribers will have the ability to get any ship they want, where as others will have to trade their dilithium for cpoints to get them. All will become much clearer when I can go into further detail when we start to talk more about the coming soon details.

We have another look but not convinced it worth playing even as a F2P game. Champions Online wasn’t and I thought that was better game then STO. Other then the look it had zero to do with Star Trek.

Oh if your new to the game it is very worth playing for at least one run through to VA. If tho the F2P model changes anything gameplay releated tho then it might not but im hoping they wont touch the game too much especially for the FE series for f2p accounts as that is the only thing worth playing atm for ppl who have played awhile.

That was my first thought, if they start charging for the featured episodes they might as well shut the servers right now.

I think if the game was free to play they'd nearly make enough cash from the C-Store with the rubbish that's currently in it, since a) they'd be a lot more people playing it and b) without a monthly sub you wouldn't mind so much the odd purchase from the store.
