Star Trek Online

Defiant is cool shame you cant use the speed really due to you going straight at them then you gotta circle around for another pass, personally i just slow right down so i can keep my fore shields in the firing line using shield abilites and the great tactical team abilities and that way i can go slow in or stop and spam cannon fire (rapid and scatter) at em due to low arcs with DHC setup.

Modo, part of the recent changes were so that you could use a cruiser as a tactical if you wanted to.. there's nothing wrong with that. Cruisers have more survivability than your standard escort. (I did the opposite with one of my Engies.. who's in a Defiant).

I've sent you an invite btw.

Skeeter, personally on the Defiant, I go for the Dual Cannons rather than DHC's. The DPS is the same, but DC's fire more shots, and more shots = more chances for the weapon to proc.. (which for the STF's [Borg] is 7.5% chance 1,000 radiation damage, nice)... when running away the 3 turrets I have in the back will still fire. :D

For those not lvl 50 make sure you can do the Mirror Event, gained 3 levels from 24 to 27 last night doing it and get nice reward for it :)

Soon be hitting 30, so not sure if worth staying with escorts or flipping over to Cruisers, but then since most of us will be getting Ent-F not sure its worth it? Thoughts?

I will admit I am loving charging at people canon's blazing, was getting 3rd place in dmg on the klingon fleet action.

Also is there a list of what weapon type do most damage to races, so what kills kligons better, romulans etc?

The Ent-F, will be like, playing with a slow moving whale, which has about as much grace as a brick with arthritis, even with 2 RCS consoles, I don't see this moving much.

All the weapons do the same amount of damage to each of the races. The basic difference is the procs that each type has.

Phasers can disable systems.
Disruptors can give a damage resistance de-buff
Plasma can give additional Damage over time.
Polaron can drop your foes energy levels for a short time.
Tetryon can do additional damage to shields
Anti-Proton can critically hit slightly more often and do slightly more critical damage.

STO is not like other MMO's where some enemies are weaker to (say) elemental damage, than slashing damage. The amount of damage the foes take depends on a number of factors, such as your level, the foes level, your energy levels, the foes shields, the rating of your foe and so on and so forth..

About the only weapons that don't follow the above are the STF [Borg] weapons which do additional damage to borg only.

Most players will stick with phasers as an all-around weapon (especially if you have a Galaxy-X, as it has a Phaser Lance weapon), some others like Anti-proton. But the basic jist is that there is no definitive 'best' weapon, only ones that are better in certain circumstances.

Ah that makes a lot of sense, I think will make sure fit one of each kind lol :) and some Tetryon action

I notice that this is now on Steam. I set up an account on the ST:O website but haven't got around to downloading the client and actually playing the game yet. So, would it be better to download it via Steam and then if I do could I log-in using the account I created on the ST:O site?

I ask because I tried going the steam route, but it says I need to link my account with the Steam one. Yet the link it gives you to connect to the ST:O site and link your account doesn't work, it's greyed out and not an active link.

Yes you can fly around randomly, I do not think you can beam to other peoples ships, but you can interact with others at star bases and such.

You can beam down to planets in missions, some starbases are on planets

Missions are instanced, so you need to team up with someone if you want help on a mission
