Star Trek Online

Need your captain's name swell, mate. captain@account.

I've just got my Odyssey (the putting-it-through-its-paces mission is a doddle, though it had to be for 5-50), and started a new captain (it'll be a nice treat for her when she dings 50, and I'd wanted to see what levelling was like in f2p anyway.)

Sector Space around SOL looks like an Odyssey convention :) There must have been a dozen sitting there when I left in mine :D

Yeah make sure bridge officers are assigned to ur ships officers slots for powers in space, and on ground for away team and keep them skilled up and equiped with good weapons and shields and armor.

If you stopped paying your sub then I think they delete your characters after a set amount of time. Lifers do keep their slots and characters indefinately though.

Maybe drop them a support ticket? Never know if you ask nicely they may beable to restore a character.

Edit: the one character slot is a bit odd, as a silver player you should have two according to this: http://www.startrekonline.com/f2p_features

The odd thing is, I reactivated a couple of months ago & had my characters then..,

Now they are all gone - along with only having one slot.

I logged into my old account - all of my old character are gone + I've only got 1 character slot...

WTF, I paid for this game ages ago - now it's F2P they hack down my character amount to 1?

common place in F2P game models... There will be a premium option somewhere that equates to a monthly sub so you can play like old.

The F2P Eq2 left me unable to wear any of the stuff i had accumulated, or store it cos they cut down the amount of space you had in the bank too..... Logged out in 2 minutes completely pointless.

That's a bit daft, surely as somebody who purchased the game & has paid for months - you should get to at least keep what you had (same amount of slots/characters/bank space) but be unable to obtain new content/items without purchasing.

All this has done is made me go

"LOL-never buying another Cryptic game again".

If you had characters, but did not sub before it went F2P then they should still be there, just not playable unless of course you only had 1 or 2 (cant remember how many slots F2P'ers get)

but they should be there! have fun waiting over a week for a response from a dull automated support team.

Well if it wasn't that long ago sounds more like a error than anything done purposely, all my characters are still there. Drop them a support note and see what they can do, never know they might be able to restore your characters.

No, it didn't. I bet you choose the option to have all your items un-attuned when you logged back in, so it all fell off you. If you were an EQ2 player from way back you'll have a crap load of free bags waiting for you using /claim.

There's a few annoyances with the EQ2 f2p system, but your impatience isn't one of them :p

They also announced shortly after the F2P went live that any pre-existing characters from old accounts would be playable, even if you didn't have the race / class pack bought.

How much has this game improved since release?

There's a few things i think could have been done a lot better, like the way you control your ship, there should be an option to play from inside, i thought that would be a big deal, also deep space as astrometrics is kind of lame, i was hoping it would be huge or at least warp being proper warp, consoles should do stuff, looking at a map of space with all the ships and systems would have been cool.

The graphics are nice enough but the scale inside ships is too big and there's not much interaction, game play isn't too bad mission wise, can't complain for free, it has/had a lot of potential, just wish they would have made things more seamless and interactive, it would be cool to look outside the ship and see what's really there and control things from the bridge. :(

It is pretty much the same, just more content.

I think they moved away from controlling your ship inside early on in the development, I do recall some concept art way way back. Frankly although that might be cool to control your ship that way a few times, using it all the time it would become frustrating imho. The way it is done now isn't ideal but it is practical.

I do agree though, not everything is great and the away missions are still dire.

I think it would be good as an option but it should have been better designed from the beginning, combat from outside the ship is ok but the main thing i don't like is how it's not all one universe, if they made it seamless you could be inside your ship look outside and see whats really there, then you could sit down and control the ship from the combat view or from the bridge, when you enter warp i want to see the ship in hyperspace travelling, look at an astrometrics display and see the objects locally and beyond, drop out of warp and be in deep space, visit random star systems, see what other ships are up to etc, lots of potential for an epic space game.

Also from what i've played it feels more like a single player experience with virtual chat areas, great you see others flying about and hanging around but where's the interaction beyond chat, can i beam over to other players ships if they allow me, how do you team up with randoms for missions?
