Star Trek Online

im finding it impossible to play atm, the lag is just too much, switching from wireless to wired internet helped a little.

i get about 30 seconds of play then it lags for around 5 minutes and im dead.

Must be either your router or ISP - has been lag free for a while now. Have you tried connecting through the EU proxy?

If thats the sort of business plan they operate under they may as well shut down the servers now because with that attitude the game won't last 6 month before becoming a ghost town.

I think it is unlikely. I mean look at Champions. The "paid" expansion has now been changed to a "free" expansion. If CO has lasted this long, STO will have no trouble.

Is there a time limit on the invites? Or can they be sent and used anytime? The reason I ask is i'd love to try this first but i'm going to be without internet soon until the 15th of March so no point in using an invite code now.

If there is no time limit and it'll be fine to start the trial on the 15th then my e-mail is davidme56 at hotmail.com.

Many thanks!

Shouldnt be. Just dont insert the code until you are ready.

Question regarding the ship stations, where you can assign your bridge officers to.

Only one of my stations is upgraded to Lt level, while the others are all stuck at ensign level. I have no idead what I did ot upgrade that one station. How do I upgrade the other stations? My officers, bar one, have all been promoted.

Got all these abilities I just can't use right now :(

Different ships have different slots. Only some stations can have Lt+ officers in them. If you look at the first post in this thread (the ship chart), you will see which officers can go into which stations depending on the ship type.

Ah, cheers man. Kind of bummed now though, cause am only Lt Commander 3 with lowly escort ship, so still got quite some time to go before I can get the cool ships with all the extra stations :(

Still, having fun making my slowly through this :)

And now that I have learned I don't lose all my mision prgress should I drop out hald way through a mission, I am happy I can now just play for as long as I want before logging off, rather than slogging through all of some very long missions and getting bored - short attention span and after couple of hours of gaming I need break.

My best advice would be - dont rush through it. STO is more about the experience of levelling than the endgame. Hopefully by the time you get to admiral there will be the Undine content and Borg raids.

Just get started and then take a look at your in game name in the chat window (mine is Kirk@139sroberts, yours will be in a similar format).

Post a reply in this thread requesting you want to be added along with your game name and one of the fleet admins such as CaptainRAVE will add you.

I think everyone (except recruits) can invite. If not, I will change the settings this evening. New members always welcome :)

PvP i've been told is just Escort dominated and exploration quests are just repeatable scan 3 anomalies rinse repeat.

Never done or heard of fleet actions.

PvP - personally I would never touch Cryptic PvP.
Exploration - There is more to it than that. Of course it is randomly generated, so there is a chance to could get a run of scanning missions.

How can you have gotten to Lt Cmdr and not have heard of fleet actions? If you are running out of quests you should have already done at least 2 fleet actions? You must have missed some somewhere.

Lol where?

Thing is there is no go to here quests that lead you to quest hubs, you just have to find these hubs and as the game is new, the higher level players are "hoarding" the good questing hubs.

lol, generally the new missions will appear in the "Hail Starfleet" tab. I dont get what you mean by "hoarding the good quest hubs". Are you sure you are playing Star Trek Online?

In all honesty, the minute i started the game and they talked about the film and how we are playing in the alternate reality of the ST timeline (not the official one) i switched off reading the quests, so maybe i've done them, but i have no idea what they are.

Not true - http://www.startrekonline.com/startrek_xi

We are playing in the unaltered time line, years after nemesis. CBS considers STO to be canon.

What i mean by hoarding is like starbase locations that contain really high exp and reward quests that the main path doesn't take you, there was a lot of this in the beginning of most MMO's.

The main path will take you to all of these locations. Anything you cant do will be because you are not a high enough level e.g. daily quests and borg space.

Wha.... i'm confused, so the Romulan star did explode in the official time line? but the film was based upon spock trying to go back in time to stop that?

Yes it did blow up. Spock releases the red matter...nero and spock then get sent back in time. You can then forget about them. I can understand how that bit would be confusing - considering Spock is narrating :)

It really is ridiculous that they find it ok to bring it down just cause its night over there :(

They do know about timezones don't they:mad:

Be thankful it is mostly just once a week. In Champions it used to be daily!

Edit: "Daily missions were recently updated to reset 24 hours since taking the mission. We’ve reduced this to 20 hours since taking the mission to allow time for players to complete the missions around the same time every day." - now that I like!

My ship is pants! I keep getting killed! My ship has the turning circle the size of planet earth, all the little klingon ships circle me and I cannot get them to face my front to fire my beams at them :/

How do I get a ship fity for combat?

Which ship do you have? Sounds like a cruiser.

standard one, im level 8. I think I'm an engineering officer...

as a mmo noob i keep getting owned by klingons, they just circle me and theres stuff all I can do about it.

What have you got your power settings set on? The only thing that will even slightly damage your shields at your level will be the Klingon Bird of Prey in groups of 3. Just use emergency power to shields (get a Bridge officer who has it). If you are finding it really tough put more power to shields.

Keep in mind when you get the choice -

Cruisers = tanks (but turn slowly)
Escorts = damage dealers (very fast and turn quickly, but die easily)
Science ships = buffs, debuffs etc

Had a escort but really wanted to try a cruiser so bought one last night - ARGH! Puke!

I actually got quite used to the agility of the escort and going to a cruiser afterwards felt like the ship was moving througth molasses! Awful!

Will be going back to my escort next time I fire this up, even if the shield aren't quite what they could be yet - will just have to keep searching for better ship shields :)

As an aside, anyone know off hand how much memory this game chews through after and hour or two? Mostly interested in Windows XP usage.

As you probably know my alt has a cruiser. I love just being able to stop in the middle of enemies and just leave auto fire on - I also have 3-4 shield abilities incase I need them. It is pretty great to watch :)
