Star Trek Online

Had my first go on this today. Not quite sure what to make of it yet. Initial thoughts: Some of it feels like champions online (no surprise there), space is missing a sense of scale, ground combat seems quite nicely done, character gen is good, tutorial was ok, graphics look good, same initial feeling of 'seen it before' as I have with most recent mmos, fun ship combat, no feeling of exploration.

Will give it a bit more time, won't cancel my pre-order just yet but I'm certainly not sold.

Also does anyone else really dislike the font they've used? Its the same as CO and while it may fit there I don't think it suits a ST game.

That could work, although I can see myself getting annoyed of having to constantly restock torp's, unless they stack in large quantities so I can buy a good sized chunk at a time.

just posted this m y ideas in sto forum

ok ideas for torpedos.if each ship has an unlimited amount of torps , all the game decendsinto is a fire eveything at each ship , thats NOT the wat it should be , in ST torpedos are only used normally when shield are down so ..... devs please .
1 limit torpedos to each class ship , obviously a miranda wont hold as much as a sovierign!

2 increase the damage a torp will do to a ship if hit with shields down as in ST again if one or 2 torps hit a non shielded ship its history.....

3 have the replicator make torpedos at a cost just like it does for other items atm so they become sought after and needed to finish ships off (that way it is up to you to make sure you have a stock pile before entering battle , or your team m8`s have some) , ie , so if you dont have any , maybe your team m8 does , so you use phasers etc to briing shields down your team m8 goes in for the kill with torpedos..........we would see much better battles and interesting gameplay !

Check your map, when you get out of the starbase you have to go to the rally point as you pointed out, and it will have put a white circle of where to go on your area map. The reason you are surrounded by Klingon's is because the zone constantly respawns every 5 minutes from when the main Starbase "kill X Klingons" mission has finished.

When i did it there was no marker, that included relogging a few times just in case.

Follow the blinking light, they're to your North (yes yes space map) as far as i remember. Safe spot is on top of the base with the ally ships so head there first if you're confused.

Torps have a narrow cone front and rear firing, plus a cooldown.

Torps do Massive damage once shields are down and no more than say phasers vs shileds down per hit when they're not.

i just think there not needed on ship as it takes immersion away

I dont really mind the shields too much, a toggle would suffice. But if we are talking immersion breakers..then for me there is nothing as immersion breaking as the stream of loading screens over and over and over and over and over again.

I played again last night for a little bit and after 30 mins of playing the loading screens were already beginning to grate on my nerves, as I suspected they would. As I say, I am a little biased as I generally prefer my MMOs to be way less instanced, but even so it was really becoming just too much. Seemed that basically anything I wanted to do, anywhere I wanted to go, resulted in a loading screen. To change sector, to dock, to beam down, to beam up, to use a turbolift, to view the bridge and so on and so on.

Hopefully the game will do well as the more successful MMOs the better, but I'm sorry to say that STO just isnt the game for me.

Indeed Rave :D
After a year and 4 months your playing for free.

Be aware I think that's only the Borg as a Federation/Klingon Char if you read into the Q's at the bottom:

Q: What are the playable Borg’s in-game traits?
A: The Liberated Borg begins with the following two traits. You can select another two traits from a general list.
Borg Nanites: +10% Health Regeneration
Description: Ground Trait. Constantly regenerates shields and health.

Efficient: +5 Starship Shield Efficiency, +5 Starship Engine Efficiency, +5 Starship Energy Weapon Efficiency, +5 Starship Auxiliary Systems Efficiency
Description: Space Trait. Provides a bonus to efficiency stats, improving the effectiveness of many of your power management abilities.

The Liberated Borg also has a unique optional trait.

Neural Blast: 30 second debuff. Drastically reduces run speed. Every 4 seconds, Neural Blast has a 40% chance to hold the target for 3 seconds.
Description: Activatable Ground Trait. Inject the target with neural toxins, which continually attempt to hold the target for the duration. Also reduces the target's movement speed.

I doubt you'll be able to grab a cube and start assimilating :p

Looks like VAT is added on top :(

Yep. Expensive, but the game will easily last two years - it is Star Trek. I always like the ability to stop playing for a while and to just be able to drop in whenever.

And yes - it means your captain can be an ex Borg. You cant play as the Borg - yet! Still pretty cool :)

Anyway, going away for the weekend shortly. Will check back here on Sunday to see if there are any more names to add to the friends list!

oh well boogie it
