Star Trek Online

Only mentions VAT on the subs you can actually purchase at the moment which is the lifetime and yearly , the monthly , 3 monthly & 6 monthly subs it just lists a price and no details of inc or not of VAT

If i was to guess i suspect VAT will be excluded on the prices listed due to some EU - USA tax laws much like we have to pay VAT on Steam purchases

Yeah could be I know there are diff laws for one off charges and recurring subs so that might be how they get round it, such as Apple doing updates for iPhones for free yet iPod touch owners have to pay as it was a one off purchase not a monthly sub like an iPhone contract.

Does anyone know if we are using the beta whether we will still have to install from the retail DVD come release or can we just log our retail key onto your account to continue playing without having to re-install everything.

I remember Age of Conan was quoted as being £8.99 a month, but didnt show the VAT. So the actual subscription came out as £10.34. I imagine this will be the same

Going off their forums the Euro's are really being ripped off on the Yearly and Lifetime though.

Definitely, I voiced my opinion on the yearly deal here. I know it's not their fault that the UK has VAT to pay, but they could have worked a deal out around VAT so we at least get a saving closer to what the US get.

Well the Lifetime deal is expensive and we do get ripped off being Britain as usual but i think if you intend to play the game a longish time its still a pretty good deal in the long term.

Saying that though i just read the Steam price drop thread and now feel peeved that it cost me £10 more last week than what it would have done this week - now thats a shocker on top of rip-off Britain price hikes

That was the exact post I read. Yeah I also agree but unfortunately I don't see Cryptic budging on this one.

Probably not, no :(

I just hope their £8.99 for the UK includes VAT. I cancelled my pre-order from Amazon yesterday in favour of getting the Steam offer since they reduced their DDE by £10, I was all like "Yay!" but I'm waiting for confirmation on whether the £8.99 includes VAT or not as I'm not willing to pay £10.50 per month for it. Plus I can't get a refund from Steam or sell the game on.

Feb 1st only? Well isnt the game out on the 2nd??? I think thats a bit lame offering it before release only. What if you get to a point you realise you really dont like the game..

btw thanks for the starbase reply, going to give it another go.

They did the same with CO but extended the offer time a little eventually.

CO only had enough content to keep me interested for a month or so then PvP held me for another couple of months before i got bored off my ****. Cryptic would have to prove themselves before i'd shell out for lifetime again, this time it'll be monthly.

Headstart (Game Live) is actually 29th January so technically u got a couple of days to decide officially if you want it.

Cryptic are doing a clever trick by giving it a limited offer and a limited period to grab some Lifetimes........ they dont want EVERYONE to have one as in 2 years they'd be getting little income in.

Call it a way for players to invest into the future of the game much like lotro!.

Anyway my fleet is up now huzzar info in my sig :P and thats my handle too in game

Well as playing in Closed Beta quite a bit is constantly being added. The Open PVP Zone was closed off in Beta but it shouldnt be too long IMO. Still leveling in STO takes some time!

Fairly expensive though for a lifetime sub, at 150 + 25 thats £175 with the lifetime sub and the cheapest version of the game, would wipe my monetary funds out, though if you have the spare cash and can see yourself playing for 2 years + it would work out ( about £75 for a year sub )

I dunno, I haven't played many mmo's for two years solid. It's usually six months to max out, then a few months break, then back for a month or two with the first expansion, and so on. Assuming something better doesn't come along.

There'd want to be an awful lot of content to warrant the lifetime sub.

Personally I would stay away from life time subs considering how bad MMOs have been recently. And just because it has the star trek name wont be enough to keep it going, look at star wars galaxies, that had a huge name, and the potential to be what WoW is, but it was ruined by the devs.
