Thanks for that :) Just registered :)

Downloading the client now :)

Right :) I'm going to give the Beta a little rest for now I think.

Haveplayed tac and science and flown the science vessel and cruiser, most fun I had was tactical cruiser. Engineer looks fun though.

Do the starting class, i.e science, tactical and engineer have any bearing on your starship operations?

I love the cruisers, staying power rules. I found science to be a bit boring and I usually play healer/support classes in other games.

Anyone else decided yet on their role come release?

My plan is for cruiser but can't say for sure as i haven't tried it yet. Hopefully i'll hit 11 later tonight and take a cruiser and science out for a spin.

I'm glad to see you're having fun in it, i was worrying a little after reading a post that said T2 cruisers were dull.

Same :) Got to level 11/12 ish, tested the ships, picked my class out and stuff... now just waiting for retail! Although might give Klingons a whirl.

They do get class specific skills in your skills window I've noticed ("K" button), those might change things about your ship.

Science vessel, probably as an Engineer.

Personally gonna go for a T2 Escort - I need some damned maneuverability, the miranda feels like a tank, T2 cruisers are even slower at turning!
In case you never noticed (I didn't for a while) the lower speeds of your impulse turn quicker. Not the "full impulse" which makes you go about 348753858034806 mph, the slower impulse that has 4 levels. I find setting 2 quicker at turning around than, say, 4.

I'm going Science/Science, having great fun with it right now! :3

And I'm going to give the beta a bit of a rest soon too. Don't want to spoil it! Although I'll try Klingons for a bit.

also to add that if you are using the automated power allocations, attack and shield will both strip power from engines and aux, further gimping engine performance

I use my own personal power settings, I keep most of power in the shields, but keep a good amount in Aux, some in weapons, and a little in Engines (my small science ship doesn't require speed as much as turning rate/agility).

I'm going to give the beta a 2nd chance over the weekend, so to prepare, can anyone tell me what the differences is between the 3 ship types? I know that science vessels have more sciences stations, escort more tactical and the other type i assume has a balance. But is there a difference in terms of weapon capabilities, functionality things like that?

Also, unrelated to gameplay, what is the backstory to STO? I've read it is set 30 years after star trek nemesis, but I havn't found out if that includes the the alternate timeline of the latest star trek film where vulcan is destroyed. Also, from the screenshots I've seen of combat, it seems the federation is fighting against Klingon ships, which I assume means that they federation and Klingons are at war? and since Klingon is an unlockable playable faction, I assume that is how PvP will take place, by just fighting when they encounter eachother?
