Question, if I cancel my Amazon pre-order and then import the US Collectors Edition from GameStop (So cool), will I still be able to play on the same servers?

Yes you will.

For anyone with lag - if you go into the launcher options, are the proxy servers there? That fixed the lag for people in Champions. I guess the servers are very busy. I like the one server, keeps the game populated all my friends in one place.

I hope the quests get more interesting or theres gonna be a massive drop in players after the first month. So far it's all been: Go to place, kill things.

They get much more fun and interesting at higher levels.

The generic deliver missions are quite bugged was trying to figure out how to deliver 10 sheild generators but I couldnt for the life figure it out.

Seems it is bugged ah well I decided to go to a planet and clear that of enemy Klingons, the map only spawned 3 out of the 5 groups. Good old beta testing.

Yes, two known bugs since the introduction of the genesis content at the end of CB. Two very frustrating bugs! Hope they get these and the server issues ready for launch.

Since no player has gotten to the highest level content, you do have to wonder how bugged it is. Oh well, the joy of playing an MMO!

The kinds of quests the tekkies or trekkers (wtf?) have been asking for would bore me to death, it's as though they want it all role play minus combat.

They do seem to be a difficult bunch to please! To be fair, haven't all the Star Trek games been combat based? Who the hell wants a game of diplomacy and warping about doing basically nothing! Star Trek The Next Generation all over again

it looks shocking at the minute.

For an MMO I think the graphics are pretty good all maxed out. AA was disabled on ATI cards as it was messing up everything else. It should be there for release - I hope because I hate jaggies!

I am not saying they are really really great, but a lot better than other MMOs and better than I was expecting. The lack of AA has really impacted them though. I do them all maxed out at 1900*1200 (or whatever the closest is at 16:10) though, so that could be the difference.

For you guys that were in the closed beta... For the Klingon side how does the gear differences between Klingon and Fed play out at higher level, is it still as bad or does it improve?

I'm one of those types that prefer to play on the darker side in MMOs and am a PvP nut to boot, but the fact that known issues has things like they're aware of Klingons having crap gear at the start and will improve it in future worries me, a lot. Open beta is only 2 weeks or so, so i can't see them being able to find and sort out any balance issues in that short duration before launch. If any of you have played CO then you know how badly Cryptic handle balance, they over compensate by nerfing things to the ground or boosting under powered things beyond the already overpowered.

I didn't get very far with the Klingons. The main problem at the moment is loot dropping in general. At least before the last few patches, the Klingons could do some patrol missions and get some good gear. Now they have universally reduced drops so that you occasionally get something half decent, but most of the time just end up with a useless battery. I have no doubt this will get fixed, but as you say, I do hate Cryptics policy of swining completely the other way and screwing us all over in the meantime. Annoyingly, before the last patch of closed beta, the level of drops was exactly where it should be!

And yes, I would have to agree with RDM above. So much changes after 11 and upwards. Enemy ships become more diverse and you must consider their abilities before engaging. Your own ship gets a lot more abilities that must be managed and the way you play will depend very much on your choice of ship. The missions also become much more dynamic, and much less of the "fire all weapons, all of the time, everytime you warp into an instance".

More than anything I am looking forward to borg hunting

Is there any reason every time I fire up the launcher it has to verify the 95000 files and then mirror some as well?

Does your game keep crashing? You can always just press cancel. It should let you straight in if it is just "verifying/checking file integrity".

Yeah keeps crashing every now and again. Its a beta can't expect anything less can you? haha.

**Ohhhhh first BSOD I've ever had on my laptop... Very strange! Ha.

Occasionally only away missions. Of all the crashes I have only ever had one lock up my computer. If it keeps happening it may be worth posting on the official forums. Either way, I always skip the file verification since it never finds anything wrong!

must be the worst mmo for loading screens imo i know its gonna wind me up ..

The problem is 50% server speed and 50% PC speed. I too was sick of the loading screens, which is why I bought my SSD a few days ago. I boot from it and STO on there. Now only get loading screens 4-5 seconds maximum. Much better and a huge improvement over my other hard drive!

The loading IMHO lets this game down for me, a lot of potential but the loading is already starting to get on my nerves, might be one of them games to come to once its matured on the market for a bit (if it survives).

It is Star Trek and is getting quite good financial backing from Atari. It will at least last a number of years. I think a lot of people will go down this route. Problem is, the more people that do this the less likely it is that these changes will get made.

Hmm tried the trick, and on my account page now there's a section for STO, and under that it states "activated features" and uner that "wrath uniform".

So I think that's all that's been added to my account, not the actual game?

Probably for release?

Ouch, had the heating on high as it's snowing here again without realising the kinda temps this game is pushing GPU's to. 2 x monitor going into standby before i realised.

Yes, my old 4870X2 would turn the fan upto 100% to keep itself cool. Cryptics engine sure can generate some heat!

I think they look great for an MMO - but nothing special in the scheme of things. Just make sure you have everything turned up - also, if you have an ATI card the graphics are made far worse by the lack of AA. Of course, I would rather substance over graphics any day.

Yes why does the game not have AA for ATI? I loaded STO up at work on an nvidia card and simply thought they had just patched in the feature =/

There was a bug with AA on. They hope to have it fixed for release. CO had the same problem.

Looked pretty bad in comaprison to other MMO's I've played, didn't dare turn anything up as it was running so poorly on default settings.

I just made an account earlier today using a key posted a page or two ago, downloaded and installed the game, now when I launch it says I do not have permissions to view the launcher. Anyway know whats wrong?

Might be worth posting on the official forums. A few people seem to have reported this.

Yup, the graphics are pretty intensive. My old 4870X2 had serious issues with Cryptic's engine.

lol fair does, i had to make some custom fan profiles to stop my card from cooking itself

You do realise the latest drivers automatically scale the fan with load and temperature right? Not many people do! Problem was my fan was spinning up to 100% to keep my temps down. No such problem on the 5970 though.
