Star Trek Online

Well ive been getting +12% regen on crew science consoles so it must regen

I noticed this occasionally, but I don't think it is working correctly/as intended. I am sure I remember them saying you would have to buy crew at space dock - but this could have been referring to bridge officers and could also have changed by now.

I guess it should probably say crew health/efficiency. As you take hull damage the % drops lower the performance of your ship. There are a lot of abilities, consoles etc. to reduce the amount of crew loss.

I guess the regen could be considered medical bays etc. that get your injured crew back into action quicker?

That would make more sense, and not mass breeding :). The dead crew then need to be replaced at space dock. Seems like Cryptic are going to add a lot in for release/shortly before - a lot of which will be untested

You would have thought so. It is quite a long open beta just to limit the level to 16 - considering there are 50 or so levels. If they don't there will be some serious show stopping bugs. I suspect they are just waiting for a large number to reach level 16 or are still collecting data and aren't worried about bugs later on. The latter would be worrying since it would mean they are more worried about balancing than bugs - I would hope they would have the game balanced by now!

For any that don't know -- they are offering startrek on line no monthly fees EVER for £150. oh and you get to be an escaped BORG and one or two other pretty rubbish extras.

The downer -- this offer ENDS in 12 days, so you can't try the full game for a few months then go for the 'endless' deal if you're getting into it.

I like lots of different types of games. MMOs? I got addicted to WOW for 24 months then quit the habit because of costs. I got quite into Conan until about level 40. I played the LOTR online until I reached about level 22 then bored of it.

So -- basically I'm gambling on playing the game for more than 15 months (at which point I'm 'into profit' if you get me).

My question is -- do you think it's worth the gamble?

That is something no one can answer for you. If you think you will still be playing and like me want to drop-in at any point down the line without worrying about subs - then I would say yes. If you are going to get bored of it within a few months - then no. Keep in mind that it will be closer to £177 with VAT and exchange rates (we really get screwed over in the UK).

If they need cash down the line, they will probably offer these subs again - they will just be more expensive. Try the open beta if you can to get an idea of if you like it (if you haven't already).

I took the plunge and got a lifetime. I am really enjoying the game. Even if I stop playing I will be able to come back and never have to worry about subs again. There will no doubt be a lot of content after launch - e.g. new playable factions.

Edit: The other worry of course is if it will be around for 15 months. Cryptic is pretty solid as a company and I really can't see anything with the Star Trek IP failing before 2 years.

How do i get access to that?

When in-game, go to chat settings (bottom right of your chat window there should be a button that you can click to get to a menu), go to the channels tab at the top, type OcUK and after a few seconds the create button will change to JOIN. Click it!

Is there an OcUK bank account set up ?

Could be useful to get peeps levelled up quicker by having better gear ;)

Not sure how it works though ?

We would need to start up a fleet. Might not be a bad idea upon release - just a casual OcUK fleet?

Just FYI:

From a Dev on the official forums -
As Rekhan has stated, the lifetime option will be available for some time after launch. It will be for $299.99 and will not have those extra perks that are available now.

The current, special offer is for a lifetime subscription, at $239.99, and includes two additional character slots, as well as the ability to play as a liberated Borg captain.

Thanks,

Stormshade

Also, a very very interesting read on the current state of the game: http://www.startrekonline.com/node/899

Currently, yes. Who knows what an expansion may hold!

Also, he's not a proper borg. He's a liberated borg; a member of Starfleet, like Seven of Nine.

i.e. your captain can be a Borg. Lots of people seem (understandably) confused. Probably won't use it (custom race all the way), but nice to have the option :)

  • Engineering Team
  • Reverse Shield Polarity

    But feedback pulse

  • What do the above do?

None, you cant land on a planet and explore, major dissapointment for me. I have cancelled may take a look when real reviews arrive.

Infinite I think? They are randomly generated by the Genesis Engine. For actual Star Trek planets, the only ones I know of that you can beam too are Vulcan and Risa.

This ^^...well almost. Cryptic actually create random missions using the genesis system, then upload them to us in patches. Think there are over 600 so far. There are plenty of star systems and planets to explore in the star clusters.

I think this is one of the only gamea I've spent some serious coin on.
Got the steam delux edition £49.99 and then the lifetime membership £170.
From what i've seen and played should last me at least a couple of years as i loved starfleet command 1,2 and 3.
Still buyers remorse lol.

Same here - will not be playing anything else for a while (may also have bought a certain rainforest copy with a Borg BO :( - still debtaing that preorder! )

Then of course there is the prospect of them selling stuff in the Cryptic store - ships, uniforms, races etc :( - not good for my bank balance!

Starting to quite like STO, its slowly growing on me. Theres a lot of negativity flying around the official forums but in 2 years cryptic haven;t done badly. Sure its not finished but few mmorpgs are when they're released.

Most people are in-game having fun. The trolls seem to have the run of the official forums atm - my reason for visiting as little as possible!

The lag is a bit bad in station u start on and less lag in space iirc.

Hopefully the lag will settle down when they expand the server. It already seems to have improved for me.

Few things I read today:

Maximum level is now 45 (Admiral Rank 5)
Players can't get infinite skill points now, so no maxing everything out

Apparantly it was from some interview with a Cryptic developer.

Yup, I read this too. Was a little annoyed at first. But it just means that otherwise, if people kept earning skill points - when they raised the level cap you could spend them all and rapidly level up. I hope they increase the level cap very soon after release! Hopefully something more official will be announced soon!

The Cap raise was posted by Cryptic.

Level Cap

Have no fear! The current level cap will be removed sometime this week.

We’re really looking forward to opening up the entire game for our testers. You’ll get to visit DS9, Memory Alpha and advance your characters past Lt. Commander.

Not the beta cap. They are limiting the release level cap to Admiral 5 - so about level 45 if I understand it correctly.

Hmm how do i talk to npc like bartender to get a romulan ale or somit and how to sit in a chair?

Btw i am in the station after killing some borg then a cube. Accepted 3 missions and just a bit lost, i duno what to skill up on i.e duno what i need or want, i duno what im supose to be aiming for i guess i want a cony and some crew to man it i guess.

Any advice?

To talk to the bartender - walk upto him and press F when the notification comes up on the screen. Or just click on the notification. You can't sit on a chair. Some npcs cant be interacted with - the ones that can will have a symbol above their head.

Don't worry too much about skills. I always level up "Starship Command" and "Energy weapons" - can't remember their exact names!

A Constitution class ship is a cruiser. So at level 11 you will want to start spending skills in the cruiser specialisation.

Hope this helps to answer some of your questions a little.

Hmm bartender didnt have a thing above his head, thats a shame i cant talk to all npcs. Wanted to talk about goss see whats happening in the trek universe there lol.

Cant sit hmm shame.

Skills ok any reason why just them?

K about the ship stuff.

To be honest none of us really know what the skills are affecting. I just go with whatever seems to be affecting my ship at the time e.g. Starship command seems to improve ship efficiency and energy weapons, well, I am always using phasers :D. Someone might (and probably will) give a better answer...
