Star Trek: Picard

Can't believe how brilliant this show is. I wasn't expecting much, even with Patrick Stewart at the helm, simply because it wouldn't feel right without his Enterprise D/E crew. However, the new crew are great. Each one has something different to bring and they all seem to be gelling together. Just finished episode 6 and I reckon I'll probably go through the remaining 4 all in one go tonight. It's an intriguing storyline which makes me wonder how they will do a season 2.

Are you crazy? You can’t go saying things like that in here :p

Started off well, trailed off in the middle and the less said about the end the better (aside from 'that' moment with Riker).

Enjoyed the series overall, but Raffi Musiker CONTINUALLY calling him "JL" - ground my gears immensely.

Yeah. Can’t stand her. JL... WTF.

We watched TNG after watching Picard and it is on another level. I hope season 2 is better.

I love Trek and will happily watch season 2 of this, but I just found it a bit boring overall. I like Disco even with its many problems, having just watched BSG for a third time - it does make these two Treks look like childsplay.

Picard is just action schlock with an extremely woke cast and a thin nonsensical plot. Tasteless and pointless violence in a dark and depressing reflection of today's society. Picard was weak and pathetic as were all the male cast. It made me want to vomit. This is something for sure but it isn't Star Trek. Star Trek was about a hopeful future where humanity has overcome it's petty issues and look to further expand themselves. I just watched Star Trek The Motion Picture and while it is slow, it is exactly what Star Trek should be, about exploring and discovery with parallels to the characters themselves.

I agree somewhat with what you say, I'm sure Gene R would be turning in his grave right now but I also think it's pretty refreshing (and interesting) to see another side of the Star Trek universe with the Federation not being all sunshine and light.

And as for Michelle Hurd (Raffi) she is my favourite character in the whole show, closely followed by Legolas Elnor.

What I really do NOT like is the "f" word dropped in just to make things "edgy". There is to be no swearing in the 24th century!

They could benefit from looking at The Mandalorian to see how to make a modern sci fi show without alienating the existing fanbase. Some of those episodes were less than 30 minutes long but felt much longer because I was engaged and enjoying the story.

Maybe have a rag tag group but don't make them star fleet or make star fleet evil. Make it like star fleet are the police and they are like I dunno, maybe Firefly? Yeah, just bring back Firefly and get rid of this.

Do we need to have season long story arcs? Can we not go back to actual trek where the majority of episodes were self contained? The Dominion war was the obvious exception to that but even that has plenty of self contained episodes. Just seems like they go for a long storyline so they can add a load of filler that nobody cares about.
