Star Wars: Skeleton Crew (Disney+)

I'm looking forward to sitting down with my kids and watching it, the trailer made it look like a nice family feel good watch which will be great over the Christmas break! I know I won't like it as much as I like a New Hope but I put that down to me now being old, jaded and the passage of time making A New Hope better than it really is! Like when you favourite band from the 90's releases a new album and no matter how good it is it won't be as good as their early stuff!

For something which at face value largely seems pitched at Star Wars a family can enjoy together at times it is actually quite violent and now and again a bit dark despite the bubbly light hearted family/adventure tone that kind of pins it together.

Wish they'd managed something a bit more imaginative than an owl... and a bit more imaginative with the hammocks, other than a few things like that which root it too much in contemporary Earth fairly good episode.

This sounds right up my street. Must give it a go. I miss the family films of the 80’s early 90’s were they can be equally enjoyed by all.

Honestly I think kids will love it, and maybe a bunch of adults that are missing that 80's itch. It's been pretty well received, which is...new for star wars.

I quite like the idea, but it's too kid focused in what looks like a mature setting. Which is annoying. There is a Goonies feel to it though.

Apart from a couple of scenes, you can skip most of the first episode really as it's mostly fluff.

Hasn’t Star Wars always been for kids though? I was definitely a kid when I first watched them. Not sure how this is any different

I have to say, the quality went up sharply with the 3rd episode especially after Jude Law's entrance. They have managed to avoid the mistakes made with Acolyte.

This comes back around to one of my complaints about the show, but I actually quite liked the fluff which grounded you in the Star Wars universe, which on some levels the show does very well, but then you get things which lean too hard on current day Earth - aliens which are unimaginative like the owl, lifting too literally from the pirate theme (sure it is probably aimed more at kids but still), a few too many objects which don't at least have some kind of twist and look like they've just picked them up from the store and slapped them on set.
