Star Wars VIII : The Last Jedi [WARNING: SPOILERS]

Thought I'd be the odd one out not particularly enjoying this film but clearly not.

Such a waste, I genuinely think if you'd have picked a random fan out of a crowd they would've been able to write something more interesting.

As soon as Luke threw his lightsaber away when Rey passed it to him I worried the plot was doomed. That was an important moment which should have been touching.

What baffles me is the IMDb score for this film, it's 8.3 or something. Yet you look through the user reviews and they are all 1/5 and utterly slating it??

Is it likely IMDb have been bought off? Or is it only the people who hated it who are leaving a review?

I have been suspicious of IMDb scores for the big blockbuster films for a while now. Has anyone seen the Hobbit trilogy scores??

Can't say or not if IMDb are genuine or not nowadays but you watch, that score will drop in a month or so.

You've got the hardcore fanboys who will rave over it and just score it based on pure fandom. Watch Jeremy Jahns review, even his fanboyism has waned to the point he won't give a genuine score until he's seen it again, "just in case". The fact he's giving it a pass until his second watch is odd to say the least.

Those user reviews are more genuine I believe.

I forgot to say
my "it's going to be crap" radar started going when I saw the sheer volume of marketing for the film in the last couple of weeks. There was always going to be a lot but this has just been off the charts. You need this much marketing in the US and UK for one of the biggest (if not the biggest) movie franchises in the world?
Hmm.

Obvious troll is obvious. Unless you come back and back it up with opinions.

I actually really enjoyed the film as well. My disappointment was not with the film as a whole but the direction they choose to answer some story points. It just left me feeling unsure on how the story for ep9 will pan out.

In a guardians of the galaxy kind of way? Or in a star wars kind of way?

In a Star Wars way. In fact I prefer the Disney films over the originals. They're pretty cringeworthy at times and Lucas has ruined some of them with all the stupid CGI additions and editing years after their release. Rogue One is my favorite of them all to be honest.

Disney, IMO, have kept the dark/light side magic and they've kept all of the little coincidences that give the rebels/resistance a fighting chance.

I may go see it again on Sunday.

Great post.

I wonder what they are going to do with Leia in the next film? She is still a pretty big character and pretty much the only one left out of the original cast bar the droids and chewi. They even killed admiral Ackbar! Also still cannot get my head around Luke. Someone who was built up to be the best Jedi ever went out in such a unspectacular way. It is almost as if someone high up simply said kill em all off as soon as you can. It is quite depressing really after all the characters went through in IV-VI to meet their ends like they did

I liked how they inverted so many things.

Snoke? Snuffed and Ren takes his place.
Luke? Sulking. Not like Yoda at all.
Heroic self sacrifice? Averted.
And so on.

They need to wipe the slate clean of the old characters and make original new stories which they could do. I fear for chewie and R2 next film :(

Looking around the dozen or so other forums I'm on there seems to be a fairly similar split to this site on peoples opinion of the film with roughly 75% of people saying they had problems with it (from Meh to raged induced hatred) and 25% liked it. Yet strangely the critical reviews don't match that split even slightly. Even IMDB is massively split between the critics and the paying public (83% rating for critics vs 53% for public currently).
