Watched some of this again on a recent flight. It really was painful. I have given up hope with this trilogy. Hopefully some of the new stories are better. Even the Knights of the old Republic online game trailers were better than this garbage.

Good post, well said.

People are deluded if they think prequels are better movies
To me they actually felt like star wars though...the new ones just dont at all. TLJ essentially ruined any preconceived notion of how characters would turn out by making them all damp squids with zero backbone - completely the opposite to how they reacted in the originals and prequels if they were around then.

The prequels are bad aside from a few moments (mostly involving lightsabers), but I think the new trilogy is objectively worse.

I'm a die hard fan but I've given up on Star Wars now. I enjoyed RO but, on repeat viewings, I realised that it looks pretty, the Vader scene is awesome and the exhaust port thing is nice but it's actually vacuous and the only actual character is K2SO.
TFA was cool and could've been a good start to trilogy but was very derivative. It was like those creepy parents who dress their toddlers exactly like themselves.
TLJ looked lovely but I hate what they did with the characters (new & old), the "ram it down your throat" messaging, the pantomime bad guys and the way Kylo just looks like he's going to cry all the time. He's just not an effective, scary bad guy like Vader was.
Solo - No interest in watching this at all. It's a story that I never wanted to know. Han was perfectly portrayed in the original series in as much depth as needed. I don't care what he did earlier.

I'm saddened in many ways to realise that I'll only watch new Disney SW when it's free on Netflix. Oh, hang on, it won't be. All the films are going to be exclusive to Disney's own streaming service. I guess I won't watch them at all then. That's fine, I'll watch some actual scifi that doesn't insult me, cram SJW messaging into the plot or belittle my intelligent. Yeah, I'll just watch The Expanse.

Aside from Snoke most of the "bad" guys that get much screen time look like they are a heart beat away from bursting into tears its quite odd.

The fact that Adrian Edmondson was one of the First Order bridge officers just gave me the odd feeling that it was about to devolve into an episode of Bottom. What with Snoke slapping Hux about on the deck in front of his subordinates it might as well have been.

Now that would have been class! :)

I can't recall them ever worrying about fuel in any previous SW movie or the old games for that matter. The ships were just powered by some sort of infinitum reactor that kept going. As I posted in the What Did You Watch... thread, I didn't dislike TLJ and it seemed more SW than the po-faced, political, humourless Eps 1 - 3. Certainly way better than Clone Wars. However best regarded as a SW style sci-fi movie than SW...

No Jar Jar Binks also a bonus!

I reckon it would have been a better film if it had devolved into an episode of bottom :p

Seriously though, what was Adrian Edmondson doing in the first order? It's like they are trying to turn them into a bunch of clowns! They are hardly the intimidating presence the empire were.

Sat here watching the last jedi, after seeing it in the cinema.

First time I've sat on my laptop whilst having a star wars film as a "background movie". It looks gorgeous but so many things wrong, its not that far away from a decent movie if they had thought it through.

1. Don't have bombs in space at the start, just have a standard "battle" with some heavy B wings or something
2. Don't make a demon of Poe, he can be out of order, but the constant ramming down our throats is tiresome
3. Kill Akbar on the bridge, let him have his moment
4. Alternatively, don't kill Akbar, kill Leia, and the floating through space bit would have been a nice send off, if she'd just rotated through space....dead. The Mary Poppins bit, urgh
5. Make Snoke someone with a backstory
6. Give Rey some semblance of backstory

Actually on second thoughts, its all over the place.....

The problem is the movie sits around this crazy "running out of fuel" story, with a crackers "lets go to Mecca Bingo" subplot

I think Disney will have heard the fan feedback, JJ Abrams will be on the hook to bring this back to life, I'm sure the Solo film numbers will scare them, it looks dull.

There better be a pretty huge reveal for the third film, otherwise Disney will have lost the older fans, who won't take their kids to the movies

I quite enjoyed it at the cinema but having watched it at home it’s a **** poor excuse for a star wars film

Did Rian Johnson think his job was to make Airplane 3?

Luke and milk scene, utterly pointless and weird

Yoda scene - pointless and stupid

Leia space scene - I’d have rather seen her get blown into space, call out for Luke as she dies with Luke sensing it from afar which motivates him show how powerful he is and save the day

Snoke- was he the lead villain? They built him up to be the main baddy but then cut the story short, so now kylo is the real baddy? Was this meant to be some clever twist because it isn’t , it’s ****, kylo is a wet fart tbh, should have left snoke in

Casino land-pointless rubbish

Fish women - pointless

Luke’s big fight- I’d have rather Luke been there in the flesh and become a leader ,use his powers to repel the first order and be in episode 9 - if they really wanted to kill him off should have been in episode 9

The movie could have been so much more

Waiting on the posts calling everyone who is pointing out issues as nothing more than a "vocal minority".

Also waiting for a story on when the people at the top asks about the disparity between Marvel and Star Wars toy sales differences lately, for someone to stand up and just say those at the top are just a "vocal minority", or blame the "vocal minority" audience for lack of sales. But I know that'll never happen because they all know it's got nothing to do with the "vocal minority" for the poor sales. The film was just bad at making anyone WANT anything from the film because the film rejected its own audience.

Meh, had zero desire to get anything related to this film after the cinema. The same still applies now; feelings over it have not changed. It can remain on the shelf of whatever retailed took stock of it; video or toys.

Finally got around to watching this on blu ray and genuinely wish I hadn't.
Rian Johnson has become my least favourite director / writer in existence and every fear I had about Disney taking the reins have been fully realised.
RIP star wars.

Really was an awful lot of very poor choices in this movie that kind of beggars belief got through.

I know Star Wars was never overly bothered about sound or Newtonian physics in space. That's fine, most shows aren't. But really, artillery shells following parabolic paths... in space?!?
Same with having bombers in space actually dropping bombs like ww2 bombers?
We have to go to this rebel base so we have enough power to broadcast a signal out for help.... Ok, but why are the main chars able to have a facetime call with female yoda? Couldn't she pass on the fact they're in a pickle?
Why not allow your smaller frigates to jump away if you know only one ship is tracking you?
Did those transport freighters all suddenly lose the ability to jump as well?
Why did purple hair wait so long before doing something while those freighters were getting pummelled? If her plan wasn't to ram them all along what was she doing on the cruiser? Couldn't find a brick to leave on the accelerator?

I'm not certain it's just the director of TLJ. This kind of silly lack of logic in the story is pretty evident in the new Star Treks too, what with super mega big federation ships being built in secret, despite the flagship, the enterprise taking years to build.
Transporters able to zip you from planet to planet etc.
Warp drive taking seconds/minutes to take you from planet to planet rather than days. (same thing with hyperdrive suddenly in star wars - they're in and out in seconds, except, ironically, the scene where they are followed)
