Stem Cell (petition)

I have just watched the episode of South Park where Christopher Reeves is cured using Stem Cells.

This thread no longer confuses me; I am now fully equipped to engage in a constructive discussion on the topic. Go!

I don't think anyone is questioning helping you, but now you've joked about it saying "OK what if it's for eyes" you've blown any chance of sounding legitimate.

You gave little to no info, got annoyed when peopled asked you about your condition and now want their money? Hmmm.

Stem Cell should be hugely encourage.

With the recent announcement that there is a chance that stem cells can cure MS, there shouldn't be any reason to stop stem cell treatment.

I don't see how that would work there currently is no cure for ms as it's autoimmune. Stem cells would help repair and bring back function of nerves for awhile but may deterioate again.

Never take a newspaper article as 100% fact it is always an interpretation nor take the results of 1 study as proof of anything.

Well, its 18 k for an unproven cure that NO ONE knows the LONG TERM effects of. What if all those people treated all develop spinal cancer exactly at the point of injection in 2 years time.

Theres a reason heavy research takes time and they don't come up with an idea and instantly make a treatment they hope will work available for anyone to have.

Not to mention there are LOTS of reports of people traveling to other countries to have stem cell's injected for various conditions and lots of people showing utterly no improvement and others having problems since having it done.

Basically what if you get 18k, travel to China have an unproven, unresearched, unknown treatment, it doesn't work, you've wasted 18k and in the future you won't try again or can't afford to. While if you wait 3 years, some brilliant breakthrough happens, you can have a vastly more thoroughly researched treatment that works, is free and has no side effects.

As for a petition, a petition will NOT get you a treatment that is simply not proven, and not available here. You can't take a petition to your gpu and he's so scared by it he just orders up a nice batch of stem cells and injects them in and you're cured.

Much of the problems with those campaigning for stem cell research is they fail to point out that it has a lot of POTENTIAL but won't necessarily ever be the cure for anything at all.

stem cell treatments has the cure for everything, just wait and see, if its the basic building blocks of life then, then it has the cure for everything.

It's not that simple I'm afraid. Stem cells are not the holy grail some people make them out to be. Stem cells are of no use in many areas of medicine. They are not the building blocks of life either, DNA is. If anything has the possibility to cure everything it's genetic engineering, not stem cells.

Thing is though, looking at the definition of Ataxia - it's not a disease as such but a symptom. Has any work been done to actually try and assess what the underlying condition causing your Ataxia is?
