Students = Cheap windows 7

I also get a similar thing, when logging in it only gives me the option to buy the premium upgrade and not the pro upgrade.
Hopw do you go about getting the pro version?

Direct from Microsoft:

To place your new order, please locate your eligibility email
confirmation and follow these instructions:

1. Click the link and log in to the store.

2. Locate and click on the yellow box with the statement " Need to
join your school?s network domain? You can also get Windows 7
Professional. Click here."

3. Select the version of Windows 7 Professional you wish to purchase
and complete your new order.

Not sure if anyone else has mentioned this but if your university is signed up for msdnaa then you can get Windows 7 Pro 64bit edition for free.

A lot of people in my class including myself have now upgraded from XP :)

Just a lot of problems with explorer crashing to deal with now!

I'm attempting to make an ISO file for my girlfriend by following this guide, however I keep getting an error, see below!

-----------------------
C:\Users\jess>oscdimg.exe -u2 -b"C:\X15-65732\boot\etfsboot.com" -h "C:\X15-6573
2" C:\WIN7.ISO

ERROR: Unable to create file "C:\WIN7.ISO" of 2520842240 bytes
Error 1314: A required privilege is not held by the client.

-------------------------

Does anyone know how I can resolve that Error 1314? My aim is to create a bootable disc so that I can perform a custom install.

Any help would be much appreciated!

Just bought the PRO version and the order gave me a direct link to the ISO file which I am currently downloading. I did order the back up disk so maybe thats why I can download the ISO direct. Also I think the back up disk comes with 32 and 64 bit versions.

If I buy the Microsoft Windows 7 Professional Upgrade - 64 bit - £30
then buy the Microsoft Windows 7 Professional 64 Bit Disk Kit - £9

I understand the download is an upgrade disk but is the disk?
do I get a disk to boot directly from or will it still be an upgrade disk? :\

hey guys, im sure it beens asked before but the thread is so long its hard to see whats relevent and whats not

Basically im thinking of getting the £30 windows 7 upgrade student offer, i dont have a legit copy of xp, im running an incredibly out of date version on sp2 with a dodgy key and have been for years :p

What I would like to do, is purchase the 7 upgrade, download a windows 7 iso, and use the key on a fresh install, is this possible?

thankyou

Would really like some advise on this.

One more thing, if i can only get an upgrade version, can i upgrade my vista 32bit to 7 64bit? or do the have to be the same bit?

I upgraded from xp 32 to windows 7 pro.
You can't run the 64 setup in a 32 OS. So you must boot from disk, which means it is exactly the same as a clean install rather than an upgrade:p

It's an upgrade disk the same.

There is a workaround though. Boot from the disk, install WITHOUT entering a serial number. It will install a 30-day trial. Then do this:

1. regedit.exe, then HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion/Setup/OOBE/. Change MediaBootInstall to a 0.

2. Enter this in the command line: slmgr /rearm.

3. Reboot, then try activating.

Nice, Your going from xp 32 to windows 7 64 right?

yeah thats the plan, having issues like fox did with the downloading, stopped at 3gb/6gb, it started as 3gb, but for some reason wanted to download 2 files.

Starting again now grrr

What is the Disk kit then? Just the ISO file burnt to DVD?

more than likely knowing microsoft trying to grab another £9
