So Suarez will be banned for the City v Liverpool game, but back just in time to play Chelsea. Oh well.
You never know, he might appeal and then FIFA do the right thing and double the ban

What is the point in banning him for four months when for half of that time there are no games.
Because they wanted to ban him for the WC and for roughly 10 league games, hence they picked 4 months. There isn't much choice, say we're banning you for X number of games, Liverpool or Uruguay could potentially schedule a dozen friendlies, two a day against random teams playing youth players which Suarez would be banned from participating in.
Fore the record he can't play in friendlies or behind close door friendlies. Cantona played in a friendly that wasn't called that on a training pitch but because it involved another team they got in trouble for it.
The closest he can come to match training is if they play a 11 vs 11 full match against the reserves/youth team.
So if they'd gone 10 match international/10 match league, they could effectively sneak out of it. By putting a time frame they cap off a certain amount of known competitive games.
Thought he wasn't allowed to train either
It doesn't stop transfers. So that's 9 competitive word cup international games for Uruguay to be served this world cup and then during qualifiers. Plus 4 months from any football activity including administrative, that surely rules out any sale then as he will not be allowed to sign for a new club.
Sack him in a heartbeat. Liverpool can easily sue him for breach of contract. I am sure I would get the sack if I commited the crime he just has.
Does that count as GBH ??
Yeah, that's how it read to me. Though I'm not sure how you stop that.

I would have thought a transfer would be classed as administrative.

Me too, and a few others here, but it's already been confirmed the other way.
