There are far worse things than biting, i think it's just so unusual to bite someone which makes it worse in people's eye's.

I would rather be bit by Suarez than get a headbutt or a career ending tackle every time. It seems there is a double standard, players can elbow other players and nothing is made of it.

Same with dangerous tackles that can end careers nothing is ever done about them, why not ban people for 10 games who fly into tackles studs first risking people's careers?

I think the ban is fair but it's definitely unfair to just turn a blind eye to the other stuff that goes on in football as i mentioned above.

This is all it comes down to. Because it's so unusual and it involves a high profile player then the governing body feels it needs to be seen to act.

Not that we needed proof that the FA only act if the media kick up a fuss but after the Ivanovic incident part of the FA's reasoning for the size of the ban was because it was trending on twitter :/

Meh, that will do. There was no need to ban him for life or years. The thing with a deterrent is that even something like the death penalty doesn't stop idiots. 99.9% of people don't even need to know that you will be in trouble if you bit someone as it doesn't occur to them to do it in the first place.

I now look forward to the Uruguay press' outrage.

The problem here is that Suarez is not and idiot, he is actually a nut case with some rage issues. So I don't think any ban will make a blinds bit of difference to him. He just got an extended 4 month holiday on full pay !!!!

However the length of the actual ban is unfair imo. Biting is ridiculous but it's not more or less violent than punching or headbutting yet many players have committed these acts 3 times or more and not received the same ban.

Can you actually name a player who has punched anyone three times, and lets be honest headbutts are rare. Gay chicken/forehead warming is fairly common but again lets be honest, these aren't intending to injure, it's a couple think they are hard footballers trying to show off, it's like cats bearing teeth at each other. I can't even remember the last genuine head butt when someone has actually gone out to smash the other player in the face.

AS much as we call them head butt's, 99.9% of them aren't at all and they still get red cards. Pepe wasn't trying to hurt Muller, he's trying to show he's tough, it's stupid, and a bit gay and a lot of players face off when they get angry. That is the other thing, 99% of the time it's after someone has been on the end of a late challenge or something.

Again Suarez does it to people who have done nothing to him, it isn't just a show of toughness, he intends to hurt the player and does it without provocation(besides losing). Bites are worse than 99.999999% of the "head butts" being done and again, those non head butts are getting red cards.

Name someone who has punched other players three times, name players who have genuinely head butted other players three times, name anyone who did it completely unprovoked.

Don't forget the massive number of things Suarez does get away with, the three bites and the racism is the tip of the iceberg. For every player that has done a genuine punch(Barton, who has received big bans also and everyone hates him also), Suarez has stamped maliciously on someone, again unprovoked.

you have to love the expression on Vinny's face while he does that.

or giving someone a quick pinch and grab of the old 3 piece suite..........

Yup, Uruguay/Liverpool should pretty much ASK the FA/Fifa to put a huge suspended ban onto the current ban, it may be the only thing that could keep him in check... not convinced but it's the next stage. Effectively tell him upfront the next time he does something really nasty you'll get a 2 year ban and be finished in football.

If he got a two year ban big clubs would be done with him, as would sponsors, but he'd almost certainly end up back in Uruguay, playing for some team and being cheered everytime he does something horrendous.

Surely any moderately sane footballer (even if that is a contradiction) would have been thinking exactly that after the 2nd bite, so given that he isnt learning - why is one more "warning" going to make a difference?

he isn't moderately sane, it's almost a south american version of Vinny jones, who also never learned that beating the ever loving crap out of players on the pitch was not the way to play football

Exactly!!! One more warning isnt going to make a jot of difference

He knows he is safe until Fifa change the rules to make a provision for a lifetime ban. Until then, they need to keep the 1 and 2 year bans for the utterly horrific acts that are GBH e.g. breaking someone's leg on purpose with a stamp or something like that.

Fifa will just keep eking up the ban each time he bites because they need headroom for other events.

This is all on the premise that they can't introduce a new law to apply retrospectively to a horror act; they have to work within the parameters they set themselves.

Hardly massive though is it? Should be at least a year without pay and lot's of help for his mental issues

Fifa cannot dictate anything about his pay at club level. Sure they could levy a fine equal to his weekly pay for an entire year, but they cannot actually stop him getting paid. Only LFC can do that, and then they can only really do that by sacking him or fining him his entire years pay. Which I would suspect is unlikely to happen especially considering that Barca would likely still buy him even if he is mental.
