What was a racist comment?

negro or negrito was a racist comment. And there you go, in the backpage you've just posted 'found guilty of racist abuse and insulting words 'making reference to Evra's colour'' not 'Suarez is a racist'

Simply putting racist as your headline is implying he is a racist.

And how do you know he said those words or that negrito is racist?

could have been another racially insulting word I guess. I know because he's been found guilty of using it by an independent comission based on evidence they're satisfied with. Oh and I'm not getting in to the cultural misunderstanding 'defence' because it just isn't.

Oh dear:o

Any particular Journalists or news agencies you can point out? I've seen a lot of condemnation of the comment and particularly liverpool fc's reaction but can't recall anyone coming out and saying he's an out and out racist. in need of education maybe but really the bad reaction has been to liverpool's irresponsible press response.

I wasn't talking about journo's specifically. Anybody that accuses Suarez (or anybody else) publicly of being a racist (or anything else) that they can't back up could be subject to legal action. I suspect that was part of the reason why Rotty deleted Knives post, as Ocuk could potentially find themself in trouble. That said, the (sports?) editor of the Daily Star directly called Suarez a racist on twitter.

You might not have to directly call him a racist to potentially find yourself in trouble either. Getting back to my earlier point, without the release of the QC's report we don't know the full details of what Suarez has been found guilty of. At the moment we only know that he's been charged with insulting Evra while referencing the colour of his skin. That doesn't necessarily equal racial abuse or a racially insulting word.

Phil Thompson: ""Suarez should've lied to the FA instead of grassing himself up."

Unbelievable Jeff!

To put it into context thompson said that many footballers would have denied saying anything at all, therefore the emphasis would have been on the panel to prove he did, which it seems they wouldn't have been able to do.

Suarez admitted using a word that he didn't believe was a racict slur, the panel felt differently.

The 14 day time frame to appeal doesn't kick-in until Suarez/the club receive the written report from the QC. They've not received it and don't expect to receive it for a couple of weeks so Suarez is free to play for a fair few more games.

If this is the case then the reports of his ban starting against Oldham were massively inaccurate then no?

Announcing the ban so far in advance of the window for appeal makes no sense from the FA :o

I guess the people reporting that his ban would start against Oldham were assuming the QC's report was going to be released straight away (or at least shortly after).

And it's not unusual for the FA to not make sense.

Suarez has received a 1 match ban and a £20,000 fine for sticking his middle finger up to a Fulham supporter who was giving him abuse.

I now await the condemnation from all ex English professionals for a foreigner coming to these shores and introducing swearing to our great game.

tbh i think that's a bit harsh, if some idiot is giving you abuse, he is provoking you, much like self defence, he just reacted in the same manner backwards, had he been the one that started it, it's a different story.

the £20K fine is hardly going to sting him that much, its like £20 to one of us, but the 1 match ban on top of the whole racism thing is going to hurt liverpool.

If the FA ban and fine the next player who does it fair enough but as BaZ sarcastically put it, they won't.

Can't complain about the £20,000 the club received because a number of clubs have already been done for failing to control their players this season although a number have also escaped for absolutely no reason at all.
