Subaru-powered Toyota FT-86 gets closer to production...

Bah, if they are calling it an '86, it should at least bare some resemblance to one.

Yeah coz lets be honest, the best thing about an AE86 was how it looked... oh wait...

It's a 3 door fastback, that's close enough ;)

It's RWD, that will be enough for most fans :D

200bhp from a 2 litre is easy, i have never understood the deal with flat 4s, a normal 4 with a dry sump sits as low and is a lot easier to work with. I have really gone of modern cars though, they offer nothing over the more fun older stuff.

Flat 4 as well as low, is also short which allows the engine to sit further back.

Width is rarely an issue unless you are the one changing the plugs :D

It's a real shame they didn't just stick with the looks of the original concept :(

The production model doesn't look anywhere near as good as concept II (in my OP), let alone the stunning concept I.

Why have they made the rear look so bland

I agree. That looks a million times better.

Weird, I think the rear looks stunning, the original was a bit lame tbh, the front with the LED's I am sure is just the current fashion to use LED's and they are really annoying when behind you.

I reckon in another colour, not black, that back end will look much better.

I will be trying to blag a test drive in one of these and the Subaru version when it comes out. You know the tuning side of things will go big on these right? Or at least I hope.. I can already envisage 3.6 H6 supercharged conversions.

Ok I'll stop dreaming :D

The one you posted was the best model. So its shame they changed it:mad::(

But because this is Toyota they will FWD it in no time:(

They get so close to having Great cars these days then **** it at the last minute:mad::rolleyes:

The subaru version atleast will have the exact same engine mounting points as a standard EJ20 engine so you could just drop any impreza engine straight in. The tuning on these will be something else.

Although that Japanese Leaflet thing is out and shows a ruined car. The Toyota Australia Facebook car is showing off this one still.

Yeah a few and owned an S14A for a bit which I really didnt get on with, I prefer FWD it suits my driving more and I think it would be a shame if the NA engine is exclusive to just one car I have high hopes that they will make an FWD hatch with the same engine a bit like they did with the 2ZZ-GE in Celica and Corolla

I like FWD in the right car, but this is NOT the right car, anything other than RWD would have been massively wrong.
