Subnautica

I had a go earlier and visited the base the entrance is
near the top of it
, and it's a nice addition :)
I've been exploring in short bursts on and off for the last few days placing the odd beacon and an emergency recharging base in the lava zone (just a single base section with a battery and power cell charger and thermal generator).

Awesome, I'll have a look tonight :) Have you tried the thermal reactor upgrade for the PRAWN suit? That would be very useful in the hot areas as it just needs temperatures above 15°C to charge the cells.

I had completely forgotten about the thermal reactor upgrade despite going looking for the kyanite largely because of it, I've got a locker full of kyanite back at my main base now but no reactor upgrade :)
I don't know if anyone else does it but I've got the cyclops fitted out with something like 6 lockers for samples, rare resources that I've collected and useful materials to have on hand (including beacons, processed materials, wiring kits, batteries etc), so I don't have to return to the main base too often.
That's in addition to the 5 small built in lockers which are very handy for things like spare air tanks and tools.
It can take a while to unload to the base after a trip out :D

Yep, my Cyclops is my mobile command centre. The lower walkway is filled with about four large glass lockers containing resources, 3 small wall lockers, a fabricator next to the ladder, and then up on the main deck I have a modification station, four more large glass lockers for various items (one of them is completely full of batteries and power cells from trips to the Aurora, another full of cured food and bottles of water), a battery charger next to the fabrication, a powercell charger in the main engine room above the door, and then finally my trip wall locker that I use to store essential items for a trip out. Oh, and a flowerbed with two lantern fruit trees and a Chinese potato, along with a vending machine. So yeah, it's pretty well equipped. I have noticed that the game kinda starts dying once you start to fill these lockers up. At one point I had four glass lockers that were completely full of only Titanium. This was gathered for the base built on the Grand Reef (the shots are further up in this post).

All of the stuff in my Cyclops is one of the reasons why I took it down with me when I went exploring the Lost River. It was handy to know that I had somewhere well-stocked to head back to if I started to run out of things. Even if it was 1.6km away!

Possible bug!

Before taking the prawn suit down below basic depth limit check it!
I popped out of the cyclops at 1200 meters and started taking damage, it had not registered the pressure compensator in the suit!

I want to try this again too! Never got that far in to it but I enjoyed playing this sort of game solo for a change without fear of getting killed every second like in rust etc!

Is there an end game goal or anything or is it just a sandbox sort of thing?

There's a story that's slowly unfolding with each EA update. You've basically got to figure out why you're there and what's going on around the planet because it's all rather strange :)

Recently started playing and love the changes that have happened since I was last on. Think I'll wait for the final release though as I am tired of rebuilding my base constantly with each update (been 5 times!). I still couldn't find much silver when I was on though! :(

I've never once had to rebuild my base in the last few updates. Granted, I've only been playing since December but since then two updates have been released and I'm still on the same savegame. Howcome you've had to do this?

Ah that's the terraforming that they changed. It was when you built bases and it changed the terrain around your base. It was causing issues and if you loaded a game with a base that used terraforming, it had clipping issues and in some cases would cause crashes or extreme slowdown. I carried on regardless and my base was absolutely fine!

Tried playing this in VR mode yesterday, felt motion sickness rather quickly :( I'm assuming this isn't really optimised for VR and was just a nice feature the dev put in?

I don't have any VR equipment so I honestly couldn't say. There's a dedicated Subnautica VR forum though. Perhaps there's some assistance in there?

I haven't played Subnautica since this last update. I keep meaning to go back but I've got so much other stuff to play still! I'll probably have another go this weekend though. I might give it a try via my Steam Link as well. I am yet to play it through that.

Hadn't played this for about a year after putting in around 30 hours when it first came out and had done everything.

Re-installed on Friday, instantly addicted again, it's come along loads and really liking the changes. Put in around 20 hours already.

I haven't got VR gear, but did notice after the last patch there is an awful lot more bounce/unsteadiness in the game, especially when walking in the Prawn suit, things like the markers for beacons bounce around massively.

This has been near the top of my Steam wishlist for some time, and that new update looks awesome. Might have to make the purchse soon.
