Summer Transfer Thread 2018

Sokrates to Arsenal is 100%. I'll be very surprised if it doesn't by the end of the week.

So far very unexciting signings by Arsenal but that's all we need.

Stability, experience and leadership at the back.

We are good enough going forward already.

I expect us to sign a DFM and a GK in addition to Sokrates.

Whether that DFM is Seri, Nzonzi or even Fellaini or someone else time will tell.

Oh and this Yacine Adli. Only 17 but supposedly going straight in to the first team.

Also rumours of a winger on the agenda.
Aubameyang will be in the running for the golden boot next season IMO. Defence improvement is what is needed.

Maybe. The problem is that if you make the side more solid defensively you might end up blunting the attack a bit. A 34 year old defender new to the PL is also a bit of a maverick move.

I think Fred will be quite a shrewd signing, every time I have watched him hes looked full of energy and all over the pitch, something we seem to of lacked in MF this season.

(This was posted in the united thread, not quite sure why i cant discuss a confirmed transfer of player in its teams thread - bizarre)

Hardly a maverick move hes cost nothing and has BAGS of experience which is what our defence needs right now

Its a very shrewd signing imo

Absolutely, but it is really isn't it? When you think that 50 million+ is considered the norm for any transfer now for a top club
I'm not sure I'd go as far as peanuts but it is a sign of the times when £17m for somebody that's barely made a senior appearance isn't mental.

Because club threads aren't for discussing all things about that club. They're a place to discuss small matters that don't have a thread where they can and are already being discussed.

I don't think I've ever seen any positivity come from you about any signing tbh :p

For the price we're paying for him, I'm not going to grumble. It's peanuts

He’s so highly rated by everyone, so I’m hopeful. Best RB in the world material, apparently... we shall see!

We're being linked with a possible move for Shaqiri. Depending on our other deals this summer, I actually don't think it's a bad move for us. Having already spent £40m on Fabinho, being heavily linked with Fekir & Alisson for big money, it's not going to leave a lot of money left, especially if we want 2 forwards this summer. Shaqiri for £12-13m is pretty good value and would free up money for elsewhere. How interested Shaqiri would be in signing as a back-up player is another matter though.

Talking of Allison, what do you think of the rumours that a few rags have touted around about Allison "saying" he wants to wait for Real Madrid to come knocking.

Do you think theres any truth to that, or just made up tabloid ****.

IF you think theres truth in it, do you think we should still try for him or turn attention to Oblak instead, despite the price cost.

Alternatively, do you think the "rumours" are true in themselves but that its not Allison but rather a "leak" by his agent/club to push up the price further.

All Brazilians seem to have a complete infatuation for Barca and Real. They're the two pre-eminent clubs in Europe. A shame then that many players have gone there and found the grass isn't always greener and in some cases have been disappointed by the behind the scenes politics and childish games.
