Summer Transfer Thread 2018

Talking of Allison, what do you think of the rumours that a few rags have touted around about Allison "saying" he wants to wait for Real Madrid to come knocking.

Do you think theres any truth to that, or just made up tabloid ****.

IF you think theres truth in it, do you think we should still try for him or turn attention to Oblak instead, despite the price cost.

Alternatively, do you think the "rumours" are true in themselves but that its not Allison but rather a "leak" by his agent/club to push up the price further.
Who knows but I believe those stories originated from Marca, which is very bias towards Real. Talk coming out from Brazil is that Alisson met with representitives of Liverpool when Brazil played at Anfield and that we've been in constant contact with him & Roma since January, with Alisson trying to help lower Roma's asking price.

Thing with Shaqiri (Liverpool were linked with him many many moons ago) is he has the ability to play killer passes (a poor mans Couts tbh) and if he is available for £12-13m and if he really wanted to go to Liverpool should be a no brainer.

As long as he understands that his role will be mainly as a backup, then I'm ok with 12m on him.

**** knows what's going on with Fekir. About an hour ago quotes came out from Lyon's owner saying a deal definitely won't be concluded during the world cup and that it's very unlikely that a deal will be done before that but in the last few minutes Liverpool based journo's are saying we're in the final stages of negotiations and are hopeful a deal will be tied up by the end of the weekend.

Well, he's hurt his ankle in training. Was iced etc but could be anything from a bit of bruising through to dead :p.

And if that's the case it makes sense for Lyon to claim nothing's happening... to try and prevent prices of players they're looking to get in with the money suddenly getting more expensive. Although obviously selling clubs will suspect that's what's happening/news'll filter through agents and players/etc.

Probably the next Hargreaves :(

Twitter's exploded with reports from UK and France saying a deal for Fekir has been agreed and he'll have his medical today or tomorrow. Fingers crossed this time.

If we get a goalkeeper and a proper striker (not to replace Bobby, but someone to change games off the bench), then we've smashed this transfer window.
Said it 100 times, signing a decent striker is nigh on impossible for us. Firmino starts 90% of games he's fit and crucially, starts every important game he's available for. Which half decent striker joins us to play 2nd fiddle to Firmino? We need to sign versatile players that can play across the front 3 and if Firmino is out, play Salah or Mane through the middle. A few people have said that Fekir could play in midfield and right across the front 3, even in Firmino's role if needed and somebody like Shaqiri covers all the front 3 too.

If we sign Fekir, Shaqiri and or another attacking wide player then we're well stocked in attack. I'd keep one of Solanke or Ings as back-up and then sell every other striker we have on the books.

They don't need to be a world class striker, though, to come on and affect matches. Giroud for instance would have been perfect. Maybe even someone like Chicharito or Defoe. Just one of those players with that knack of nicking a goal when it matters against a team that's shut up shop.

Edit: my issue is that we have some fantastic attacking players, but Mane, Bobby, Salah, and on my understanding of him Fekir are all very similar, and Ings and Solanke are similar but not as good. We want a bloke who can stand in the box and score ugly goals when necessary.

It's not that much cheaper than what was previously being rumoured (£60m or so).

Giroud isn't going to settle for being on the bench 90% of the time? That's the problem we're faced with because Firmino is Klopp's first name on the team sheet.

Hernandez and Defoe scored 8 and 4 goals respectively. Why settle for that when you can instead look to bring in another Mane/Salah type that could bag 10-15 goals and provide depth right across the front line? Also Ings and Solanke are nothing like our front 3 or Fekir, in fact Ings is very much the player you're describing when you say you want a Defoe or Hernandez.

If we ended the summer with a midfield and attack of Hendo, Fabinho, Gini, Milner, Lallana, Keita, Ox, Fekir, Mane, Salah, Firmino, Ings or Solanke and 1 more flexible, creative forward then I wouldn't be too concerned. You've got plenty of flexibility and options there with Fekir & Ox being able to play in midfield or attack and you have the option of an Ings or Solanke if you wanted to mix things up.
