Summer Transfer Thread 2018

That clause wasn't a release clause, it simply stated that Liverpool would consider any bid over that amount. I was talking about the clause in the contract Suarez signed after that summer, 6 months before he joined Barca. We couldn't prevent Suarez leaving 6 months after he signed a new contract because the deal he signed included a release clause, Liverpool have by all accounts refused to put release clauses in any deals since then and is reportedly still the case with Salah's new deal.

I also believe part of Emre Can's contract situation was his agent wanted a release clause and Liverpool flat out refused one. And rightly so.

That's certainly what Liverpool had been briefing the past few months but I suspect that massive signing on fee Juve gave him was a bigger factor.

Stinks of Everton tbh. Massively underwhelming. I know Arsenal needed some work doing but how many of these players get into the top 4 sides? I cant think of one.

its nothing like what everton did

everton packed the midfield of offensive players because they lost there top scoring goalscorer

arsenal are filling the gaps of places we have needed sorting for years!!

Lol omnomnom sounding a bit butthurtski lol.

Ok so our signings aren’t exactly world class but they are experienced, which is what we need at the moment.

Can’t wait for the Uruguayan mid Torreira to sign the dotted line, he seems pretty exciting.

How am I? I think you're plugging holes which is fine however they arent players of real quality that will take you to the next level. Experienced sure...top drawer quality? Not for me.

Liverpool spent £35 million on taking ox off of us

so don't talk to me about signing players of real quality ;)

We did and he was excellent before his injury including scoring a screamer in a champions league quarter final. Even your own players were upset at you selling him #shambles .

But dont worry about Chamberlain...we have Henderson,Milner,Lallana,Keita,Fabinho and Ox all in midfield with Fekir likely to join them. All im saying is have Arsenal really signed players that are going to get them where they want to be? I dont honestly believe they have.

Plenty of time in the window to go but id be a little underwhelmed personally.

You call him butthurt and then agree with him :D

Looking from the outside Arsenal's signings look underwhelming. You've spent £30m odd and it's difficult to see obvious upgrades on what you had before.

I think Arsenal have done quite well actually considering the supposedly limited budget. (Which I don't believe and think is a smoke screen to keep prices down)

Socrates has taken over at Dortmund from Hummels and been one of the best defenders in the Bundesliga.

Add to the fact him, Aubamayang and Mkhitaryan played together at Dortmund so hopefully this will add a little something to the side.

Torreira looks like a fantastic little pit bull of a player. Exactly what we have been missing. Had Ronaldo in he's little pocket the other night.

Lichestiner OK not that exciting. But he is a serial winner and brings a winning mentality and experience to the team as well as competition for Bellerin. Also from what I have seen during this world cup he looks like a warrior.

Then Leno remains to be seen but he's meant to be a very promising German keeper.

Remember that we have diamond eyes Mislintat now so these are not Wenger signings any more.

Also from the 3 games Mavropanos played last year he looks like he will be a great player too.

Aubamayang for the golden boot as well.

Exciting times to be honest.

I'm optimistic.

We don't necessarily need upgrades, we need to bring the best out of the talent we already have.

Auba, Lacazette, and Ozil can bang goals in for fun but it means nothing if the team concede stupid goals and crumble against the slightest bit of aggression from another team.

Leno is a gamble but they obviously see something that leads them to believe he can be a class keeper with the right coaching, he's still relatively young for a keeper. Torreira is who I'm most excited about, looks like a solid bull of a DM who can also drive forward and play a decent pass or two, something we've not had in over a decade. Someone like him can help get the best out of the likes of Xhaka, Ozil, and Ramsey.

Lichtsteiner brings some much needed competition and can act as a mentor for Bellerin, another who's played nowhere near their potential. He's also an ******** and we need a few of those in our team to get us through difficult periods, he'll hopefully help stop us completely crumbling when things are going against us.

Kos is old and broken, I believe there's a good player somewhere in Mustafi (deeeeeeeeep down) and having someone solid and reliable like Sokratis next to him will help him build some confidence after an awful season. They could be a decent pairing if they click.

We have a lot of players playing nowhere near their potential and I think that's the priority for this window given the limited funds. Bellerin, Mustafi, Mkhitaryan, Ramsey, Özil, Iwobi, Xhaka, Lacazette, and Aubameyang playing at or near their potential can all be amazing players and help push for Top 4. I'm not expecting us to be back in there come the end of the next season, but having a manager and backroom staff that know what they're doing and can spot and bring in talent makes the future seem brighter than it's ever been for Arsenal.

I think I mentioned it at the end of last season, it always makes me laugh when a club appoints a chief scout/director of football type figure on the back of them uncovering some decent players and then all they do is sign those same players again. It would have been cheaper for Arsenal to just buy the players he bought rather than appoint him and then buy the players he bought.

The Soyuncu rumours are strong too. And at £35 mill not cheap. The fact we gave contracts to Chambers and Holding to me signals that we might try and offload Mustafi.

The general feeling amongst the Arsenal faithful is excitement. What's happened since Wenger left has been exactly what we have been crying out for over the last 10 years.
